One night, Kanon had a strange dream in which her ex-boyfriend turned into a strange, whitehaired monster that did battle with a giant. She awoke to the dismal sight of rain over metropolitan Tokyo.

Misaki was awkward and reserved at the party held in her honor, which furthered Ms. Maruyama's suspicion of her. Because of her stress, she had too much to drink, and after the party, Maruyama escorted her home. Miyuki began hiccupping and started to stray from the path before the two women turned down an alleyway. There they saw an Ipadada in the form of a giant cricket jumping around the walls, and were nearly run over by the Onbake Taihei, who jumped over them on his motorcycle, scattering the advertisements for a traditional music concert that he had tucked into his waistband. One of the flyers lands perfectly between Kanon's fingers. After this ordeal, Maruyama invited her for a drink at her apartment. There, Maruyama asked about Kanon's breakdown earlier that day, and Kanon explained that ever since coming to Tokyo, particularly after Saeki stole her grandmother's prayer song, she had been faced with the people's lack of compassion. It lead her to question her morals and her grandmother's teachings of kindness and understanding. Maruyama consoled her as she cried, mourning her loss of innocence and lack of surety of her place in the world.
