Archetype
Archetype (アーキタイプ Ākitaipu), often referred to as Red Dust due to that being a common form it manifests as, is a type of particle that has metamorphic and multidimensional properties. It in its various forms factors heavily into the existence of kaiju and the attempts to counter their threat in the 2021 animated series Godzilla Singular Point.

Heavily studied decades ago by the mysterious Michiyuki Ashihara, Archetype is a type of particle that simultaneously exist in multiple dimensions and can manifest into different matter. As it is not bound by the laws of physics, Archetype can bend time, light, and space. Ashihara first discovered the substance near a fishing village in Japan, where Archetype was being absorbed into the bodies of local marine life such as jellyfish. Natural sources of Archetype in the human dimension, called Singular Points, are extremely rare with the only known natural source being in Upala, India and in Japan. Ashihara's findings about the substance and the follow-up to his research done by groups like the SHIVA.consortium lead to many discoveries. With the proper applications, Archetype can be coded to manifest in specific forms; with roughly a dozen known in the modern day. This lead to the development of the Super Dimension Calculator, a device which used a Singular Point discovered deep underground, and Orthogonal Diagonalizer, which could transmute one type of Archetype into another form. Unsettling however through his use of the calculator, Ashihara learned that a catastrophe was predicted to happen that would involve Archetype.
Archetype became much more widespread on the onset of kaiju incursions in modern times. The first few incursions by Rodan ended in the creatures mysteriously dying suddenly for what was initially unknown reasons, the cause later being found to be a lack of Archetype in their surroundings that they needed to live. It was discovered that the kaiju manifesting into the human world had Archetype incorporated into their very biology. When the second incursions by Rodan left the kaiju spreading red dust particles in their wake, these particles were found to be a hazardous type of Archetype. Subsequent appearances of larger kaiju such as Manda and Salunga produced more and more red dust, with the monsters manifesting from clouds of the substance. The amount of Archetype manifesting drastically increased when Godzilla appeared and made landfall in Japan. The sheer amount of red dust form Archetype Godzilla was exuding rapidly began to draw in and manifest large hordes of smaller kaiju, as well as terraform the landscape around it. Attempts to combat the kaiju with the use of imperfect Orthogonal Diagonalizers to turn the Archetype against the monsters proved lukewarm. Use was met with decreasing success in trying to stall Salunga from reaching the Super Dimension Calculator by turning the nearby red dust into impaling spires to impale the kaiju until it broke free.
Thanks to the collaborative effort of Yun Arikawa and Mei Kamino among others, with their AI partners Pelops II and Jet Jaguar; a calculation was discovered in a message sent back from the future. This calculation enabled Jet Jaguar to grow to giant size and battle Godzilla long enough to activate a perfected Orthogonal Diagonalizer. Restructuring the red dust covering Tokyo during the battle into a new form, both Jet Jaguar and Godzilla as well as the other smaller kaiju all vanished. In their place, large blue crystals were left across the city. Back in India, the same crystals impaled and seemingly finally killed Salunga just before it could get to the singular point inside the calculator. At a heavy cost, the catastrophe Ashihara foresaw was averted.
Trivia
- The use of Archetype as a new discovery with many possible applications, but its existence and usage being the catalyst for monsters to appear, parallels fears and themes of nuclear energy seen in older kaiju media.
