Cthulhu is a fictional cosmic entity created by H. P. Lovecraft for his 1928 short story "The Call of Cthulhu". The character almost crossovered with Godzilla in a 1994 proposed crossover film[1] and a 2010 comic project by IDW Publishing part of Infestation 2,[2] but both proposes were scrapped. The character has crossovered with King Kong in the 2011 tabletop game, King of Tokyo, which also features some other creatures from mythologies, folklore, literature and movies. Cthulhu finally came to crossover with Godzilla in the 2019 mobile game, Funko Pop! Blitz, which also features King Kong and Mechagodzilla.
Design
Cthulhu is usually portrayed as a creature with a humanoid body, an octopus-like head, and wings.

- The coordinates where the American nuclear submarine Seawolf first makes contact with Dagahra in GODZILLA: Monster Apocalypse, 47°9′S 126°43′W, are where the fictional lost city of R'lyeh, the prison of Cthulhu, is said to be located in the "The Call of Cthulhu" story.
- Cthulhu was one of initial sources of inspiration for Iris's design in Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris.[3]:100:216
- The Kraken from the 2023 Monsterverse animated series, Skull Island, bears some physical similarities to the Cthulhu from the 2020 film Underwater, which Skull Island showrunner Brian Duffield also wrote for.
