There's not a lot of Gamera games that are readily available for fans outside of Japan, and most of them don't have good reviews. So my question is, if you could create a future Gamera game, what would you do?
As for my own idea, I'd make a game that is similar to the PSOne game Gamera: 2000, which featured an alien race trying to take over Earth using various machines and monsters - including several new versions of Gyaos - while a group of humans team up with Gamera to stop them. The game got a lot of positive reviews and you can read a review of it here as well as see Matt Frank play the game here.
Here's what I would do. For the story, Earth is visited by an alien race called the Pairans, who warn humanity that an alien race called the Zanon is planning to invade Earth with an army of genetically engineered monsters (most notably several variants of the Gyaos) - adding that the Zanon have already conquered other planets and are in the process of trying to take over several others. In order to stop the Zanon, the Pairans ask for help from both humanity and Gamera to unite the worlds under siege and take down the Zanon - with two of the Pairans (one of whom is your character) transforming into a human form to assist the humans selected for the mission.
Throughout the story, you'd travel from world to world - gaining support by destroying the attacking Zanon forces (both machine and monster) while playing as Gamera and your Pairan character as well as completing other tasks which benefit you and your allies - such as new guns, new vehicles, improved abilities, etc.
Your character and human allies will have access to a variety of weapons including human weapons, alien weapons and weapons based off the attacks used by Gamera monsters such as a Sonic Laser (Gyaos), Heat/Disintergration Ray (Jiger), Death Rainbow Cannon (Barugon), etc. Meanwhile, missions involving flying are no longer on rails like in Gamera 2000 but are free-flight like modern aircraft simulators (Ace Combat, Heatseeker, etc.)
The game would bring in every monster from the film series (Barugon, Viras, Guiron, Jiger, Zigra, Legion, Iris, Zedus and Gyaos (all forms)). Furthermore, it would also include other Daiei/Kadokawa monsters (Kujira Gami and Daimajin), comic/manga kaiju (Geboras, Powered Gyaos, Futakobukarappa, Morphos, etc.), video game kaiju (Neo Gyaos, Bionic Gyaos, etc), unmade monsters (Garasharp, the Wyvern, Ice Giant, Monga, etc.) and monsters from other related media such as the Phoenix and the Albino Gyaos.
The game would finish with you, Gamera and your allies (aliens and monsters alike) succeeding in destroying the Zanon - with the final battle been between Gamera and Morphos; the last of the Zanon's genetically engineered creations and which can transform into any other monster. After transforming through several monsters (and depending on the difficulty), Morphos will transform into a final form before Gamera and the humans destroy it. In Easy Mode, the final form will be a copy of Gamera; in Normal Mode, the final form will be the Powered Gyaos; in Hard Mode, the final form will be the Bionic Gyaos and in Expert Mode, the final form will be Godzilla.
Outside of story mode, there would be a battle mode for you and your friends to battle with each other similar to the Godzilla games, alongside challenges and been able to relive the fights from the films - such as fighting Guiron on the planet Terra and fighting Zigra underwater, etc.
