"The Giant Demon God" (巨大なる魔神,   Kyodainaru Majin), also called "The Song of Faro Island" (ファロ島の歌,   Farotō no Uta), is the main theme of the 1962 Toho film King Kong vs. Godzilla. It is a song the natives of Faro Island sing to appease their god King Kong, and is performed with lyrics three times in the film. The lyrics were fashioned from various real life Mono-Alu-language folk songs compiled in the 1922 book Mono-Alu Folklore by Gerald Camden Wheeler, with the lyric "magu nu nitu" in particular being chosen for its associated connotations with thunder and legendary creatures or spirits.[1] An instrumental version of the theme is used to underscore Kong in many scenes. Composer Akira Ifukube reused this song as "The Prayer of Sergio Island" (セルジオ島の祈り,   Serujiotō no Inori) in Space Amoeba, though the lyrics were changed. "The Giant Demon God" is included in instrumental form in the end credits suite for Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, and is also part of "The Theme of GODZILLA" in the television show Godzilla Island, with the original lyrics included. Much like in Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, an instrumental version of "The Giant Demon God" is included in the soundtrack for Godzilla Minus One as part of the film's second suite, both of these arrangements being based on the "Symphonic Fantasia No. 1" movement from Ifukube's An Evening of Special Effects Music, originally performed in 1983.
