The Phoenix (フェニックス,   Fenikkusu) is a supernatural fire-themed bird originating from ancient Greek mythology. It appears in the 1995 Shogakukan bunkobon novel Gamera vs. Phoenix.

Development

The Phoenix was originally planned to battle Gamera in the unproduced 1994 film, Armageddon: Gamera vs. Phoenix.[1] Shōwa Gamera screenwriter Nisan Takahashi wrote the script, then converted it into the 1995 novel Gamera vs. Phoenix after the project was scrapped.

Design

In Gamera vs. Phoenix, the Phoenix is a giant bird which resembles a stork, having a long neck and legs and a moderately long beak. It is covered in red feathers and has a crest on its head and a tail consisting of three long feathers.

History

Gamera vs. Phoenix

A new Gamera emerged from beneath the Nazca Lines after the original gave his life to protect the Earth. This Gamera eventually encountered and battled the giant firebird known as the Phoenix.[2]

Godzilla: King of the Monsters - The Official Movie Novelization

During Rodan's emergence from the crater of El Nido del Demonio, Mark Russell thought that the pterosaur Titan looked like the mythical Phoenix, "shedding flame and lava, reaching for the sky."

Video games

Godzilla: Monster of Monsters

Phoenixes appear in the game's Volcano stages, often in groups. They spit fireballs at the player and, just like most stage enemies, can be killed relatively easily.
