A third-generation member of Monarch, Ling and her twin sister Dr. Ilene Chen investigated accounts from loggers in China's Yunnan province of haunting singing in the forest at night, which they connected with ancient accounts of singing forests spirits. After Mothra escaped from Outpost 61 and cocooned under a waterfall in the Yunnan rainforest, Dr. Ling was one of the Monarch scientists sent to monitor the situation.
