The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is an American family of fifth generation single-seat multirole fighter aircraft, with its "B" variant having V/STOL capabilities. The F-35 has been exported to a number of countries, including Britain and Japan. They have appeared in all three Godzilla films of the Monsterverse, beginning in the 2014 Godzilla as part of the US Navy, and later in the 2019 film Godzilla: King of the Monsters as part of Monarch's inventory. The craft also appeared in the 2021 series Godzilla Singular Point and the 2022 short film Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex.

History

Monsterverse

Godzilla (2014)

At least one F-35C was sent to Honolulu to track down a Russian submarine that had gone missing in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Hawaii, but was brought down by the male MUTO's electromagnetic pulses. Additional F-35Cs were later deployed in large numbers to San Francisco to battle against both MUTOs. Several of these aircraft were downed by electromagnetic pulses, crashing into the city or into San Francisco Bay.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

After Rodan broke free of his containment at Isla de Mara, a group of Monarch F-35As codenamed Gold Squadron was launched from the USS Argo in an attempt to distract him and lure him away from attacking citizens still evacuating the island's city. A squadron of U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornets assisted the F-35As in attacking Rodan, but as Rodan began to pursue the Argo, he proceeded to use his abilities to destroy all the jets as he gave chase, including the entirety of Gold Squadron.

Additional F-35As took part in the final battle between the Titans in Boston.

Godzilla vs. Kong

Three F-35Cs intercepted Godzilla in Pensacola, Florida, as he attacked an Apex Cybernetics facility. The first two planes launched missiles at him, while he smacked the third out of the sky. He quickly destroyed the others with two blasts of atomic breath, the second exploding near a crowd of civilians fleeing from Godzilla. Numerous F-35C Lightning II jets of the U.S. Navy were also caught in the crossfire between Godzilla and Kong's battle in the Tasman Sea, where they attempted to fire on Godzilla. However, Godzilla downed almost all of the aircraft and destroyed many more that were parked when he climbed aboard the deck of an aircraft carrier to fight Kong hand-to-hand. During the fight, Kong picked up one of the jets with a pilot who had just climbed inside, before hurling it at Godzilla's head. The pilot managed to eject in time, but the impromptu projectile did little to slow Godzilla's advance. Moments later, other jets spared Kong from a point-blank blast of Godzilla's atomic breath with a barrage of missiles, distracting the Titan.

Godzilla Singular Point

"Tigerish"

A pair of Japanese F-35As were deployed to intercept an unknown object flying high above the air. Upon arriving, the pilots discovered that the object was a Rodan, and soon observed a horde of the creatures flying below.

Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex

A trio of JSDF F-35As were sent to intercept Gigan Rex, the leader of the Gigan Miles causing havoc in Japan. All three aircraft opened fire, firing a pair of missiles each at the cybernetic kaiju. In response, a nearby Gigan Miles fired a laser, destroying the missiles before they could make contact. Then the Gigan Miles charged headfirst towards one of the F-35s, destroying it with a swipe before pursuing another of the aircraft. The other remaining F-35 maneuvered behind the kaiju and fired another pair of missiles which made contact. Unfazed, the creature turned its head and shot its laser at the chasing F-35, destroying it. The last remaining plane was then swiftly taken down by the claw of the Gigan Miles. Another pair of F-35As flew after it as more Gigan Miles battled tanks in the city below. One landed with an F-35 in its jaw, crushing the cockpit seconds after.
