History

Heisei era

Gamera 2: Attack of Legion

Five days after the meteor shower above Lake Shikotsu in Hokkaido, a Mitsubishi SH-60J flew near the Sanriku Coast. The pilots reported nothing unusual and were returning to base, but just then, the Asagiri-class destroyer JS Umigiri detected an object 90 degrees and 12'000 meters away approaching the ship. One of the officers aboard requested a visual check from the helicopter. The pilots saw a pod of dolphins swimming below them before Gamera rose out of the ocean and began flying toward Sapporo. The pilots were shocked and reported to Umigiri that the object was Gamera.

Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris

Three days after the destruction of Shibuya and the Japanese government's order to kill Gamera, a Japanese news station reported that the JMSDF attacked Gamera off Okinotori Island early that day. The station said they did not know at the time if Gamera was hit. The Kongō-class destroyer JS Myōkō (DDG-175) and Asagiri-class destroyer JS Yamagiri (DD-152) were deployed alongside 2 Mitsubishi SH-60J helicopters in the news footage shown.

Millennium era

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack

A Mitsubishi SH-60J prepared to land on the helicopter deck of the Battle Cruiser Aizu as it was searching for Godzilla near the Bonin Islands. Later, a Mitsubishi SH-60J transported Admiral Taizo Tachibana and Commander Yutaka Hirose to the Aizu in Yokohama Bay before the counterattack against Godzilla.

Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla

In 1999, a Mitsubishi SH-60J flew above a military port in Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture before a typhoon struck the area that night.

In 2003, during the Anti-Megalosaurus Force's presentation revealing the anti-Godzilla cyborg Kiryu, an AMF monitor began tracking a large object in the Pacific Ocean. The AMF HQ dispatched a Mitsubishi SH-60J to find out what it is. Their fears were proven correct when one of the pilots confirmed Godzilla was heading toward Tokyo Bay. Soon, Kiryu was deployed and intercepted Godzilla near Yokohama.

Reiwa era

Shin Godzilla

After the giant creature Godzilla fled into Tokyo Bay, the JMSDF was deployed in Sagami Bay to search for the creature. A Mitsubishi SH-60K suspended a dipping sonar into the water.

Godzilla Singular Point

"Enfatico"

Three JMSDF destroyers formed a blockade in Tokyo Bay, tracking a swarm of Manda approaching them. A Mitsubishi SH-60K followed the swarm above the surface. The helicopter turned away to return to base before the destroyers turned their guns to port and fired at the Manda.

"Explorer"

A group of three Mitsubishi SH-60K helicopters flew above Yukie Kanoko and Makita K. Nakagawa toward the giant swirling cloud of Red Dust enveloping Tokyo.

Comics

Gamera vs. Barugon: Comic Version

Pilot Yoshio Kaida, after being rescued by the Hatsuyuki-class destroyer JS Hatsuyuki from the tsunami caused by Barugon's rainbow ray, was interviewed by 3rd Lieutenant Yoshida aboard the ship. Kaida requested to be transported to Chōfu Airport, where his company was located. After Yoshida consulted with the captain, Kaida was brought onto a Mitsubishi SH-60J before it took off. Kaida began talking to Aya who appeared in the back seat mysteriously, but the pilots couldn't see her. They assumed that Kaida was talking to himself because of shock. Later, while still in the air, Gamera flew past the helicopter toward Barugon in Miura Peninsula. Once the helicopter arrived at Chōfu Airport, the pilots urged Kaida to be careful and noticed that he suddenly had a bag with him.
