Tokyo Bay (東京湾,   Tōkyō-wan) is a bay located in the southern Kantō region of Japan, and spans the coasts of Tokyo, Kanagawa Prefecture, and Chiba Prefecture. Tokyo Bay is connected to the Pacific Ocean. It is featured in many Godzilla films.

History

Showa era

Godzilla (1954)

Godzilla first emerged from the eastern part of the bay and into the city, later retreating along the same path. The following night he again emerged from the bay and destroyed much of Tokyo. Following his second night of destruction, Godzilla was killed when Dr. Daisuke Serizawa deployed his Oxygen Destroyer weapon in the bay, liquefying the monster.

The War of the Gargantuas

While Sanda was battling Gaira, their fight went into the bay and the two fell into a fault. Both monsters died in the magma.

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla

When Godzilla's atomic breath and Mechagodzilla's Space Beams collided, the resulting explosion threw Godzilla into Tokyo Bay. The wounded monster did not reemerge, but his blood soon filled the water.

Heisei era

The Return of Godzilla

Godzilla entered Tokyo Bay and triggered an evacuation of the city. The JSDF launched fighter jets to intercept him, but their missles were useless and Godzilla made landfall.

Millennium era

Godzilla 2000: Millennium

Godzilla emerged from Tokyo Bay to fight the Millennian spaceship.

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack

Preparing for Godzilla's impending attack on Tokyo, the JSDF sends battleships in the bay and troops onto the land. The battleships launch D-03 Missiles that fail to pierce Godzilla's skin. Godzilla retaliates by firing his atomic breath and the troops and battleships, destroying all the ships except for the one that Taizo Tachibana was on. Ghidorah is then revived by Mothra's energy and blasts Godzilla into the bay with his shield causing a massive explosion. Ghidorah continues to fly above the bay while Yuri Tachibana and Mitsuaki Takeda give a live news report form the Yokohama Bay Bridge. Eventually, Ghidorah goes to fight Godzilla underwater and they have a brief scuffle while the military plans an attack using the Satsuma and D-03 missiles. The battleship puts two submarines in the water. One of them fires their D-03 missile at Godzilla, but Godzilla dodges and puts Ghidorah in the path of the missile. A stone containing souls slipped out of Takeda's bag while he was trying to pull Yuri up after she fell. The pair fall into the water, but the souls revive Ghidorah and he saves them. While this happens, Godzilla swallows the Satsuma trapping Taizo in Godzilla. Ghidorah and Godzilla fight again with Godzilla using the power from Ghidorah's gravity beams to power his atomic breath and destroy Ghidorah. Later, Taizo successfully puts a whole in Godzilla's shoulder with the missile. As Godzilla surfaces facing Yuri and Takeda, he charges his atomic breath but it fires out of his shoulder. He tries a couple more times before he sinks into the bay and explodes. Taizo make it out of Godzilla just in time and escapes. After the battle, Godzilla's still beating heart rests at the bottom of the bay.

Godzilla Final Wars

Hedorah and Ebirah were sent by the Xiliens to confront Godzilla in Tokyo Bay, but were easily blasted out of the bay by Godzilla's atomic breath and subsequently destroyed.

Reiwa era

Shin Godzilla

In 2016, an empty yacht belonging to the missing Goro Maki was investigated by the Japan Coast Guard after it was located drifting in the bay. Though Maki himself was nowhere to be found, a small amount of his research remained on board, which revealed his studies into a mysterious creature mutated by nuclear waste dumped by the United States in the 1950s. Shortly afterwards, the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line was attacked by the creature, which made its way ashore.
