Los Angeles is a major city in the United States. Aside from being featured in the 1999 film, Reptilian, it has appeared fairly infrequently in kaiju media, but has been in various comics, books, and video games from the Godzilla franchise.

History

Reptilian

Yonggary in Los Angeles

After reviving Yonggary under their control with the daemon, the Galaxions transported the monster to Los Angeles. He began to rampage through the city, resisting the U.S. military's attempts to stop him. Before the last resort of a nuclear strike would be opted for, Project T, an operation in which troops were enabled with jet packs and laser weapons, was carried out to attack Yonggary, and were given the knowledge that they needed to destroy the daemon on the monster's forehead. They eventually succeed and Daemon was destroyed, releasing Yonggary from the Galaxion's control. Desperate for their invasion to succeed, the aliens sent their own monster, the cybernetic beast Cycor, down to kill Yonggary and take over Earth. After an intense battle, Yonggary defeated Cycor, and the Galaxions retreated, fearing the awakening of Yonggary's "true strength." Afterwards, Yonggary was transported away from the city to a remote island he would have to himself.

GODZILLA: Planet of the Monsters

Godzilla attacks Los Angeles

Godzilla revealed himself to humanity with his attack on Los Angeles, where he utterly obliterated the city.

Comics

Godzilla

The Champions of Los Angeles watched a news broadcast of Godzilla attacking San Francisco, and promptly set off from their headquarters in the city to challenge the monster.

Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters

Godzilla and Anguirus simultaneously turned their attentions towards each other shortly after emerging, putting the two kaiju on a collision course within the heart of Los Angeles. The U.S. government mandated an evacuation of the city, but many civilians still remained by the time Godzilla and Anguirus met up. The two monsters fought, obliterating the Hollywood sign and much of the city in their battle, evenly matched until Godzilla gained the upper hand and knocked Anguirus out before heading east. The military persuaded President Ogden into allowing poisonous gas missiles to be used on Anguirus while he was down, and that any survivors killed in the strike would be marginal compared to those who would die if Anguirus were to live. However, Anguirus merely stood on his hind legs to avoid the gas and walked eastward as well.

Godzilla

The Monster Kill Crew followed Godzilla up to San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles in an attempt to stop the kaiju. As the Monster Kill Crew continued their skirmish against Godzilla, the Daniel Malmon group's Mechagodzilla - piloted by Daniel Malmon himself - engaged the King of the Monsters. After a brief battle, Godzilla blasted Mechagodzilla with his atomic breath, causing the mecha's core systems to fail. With his foe defeated, Godzilla advanced onwards. The Monster Kill Crew regrouped to develop a new plan to stop Godzilla, but were put under arrest.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth

Magita challenges Earth's kaiju

SpaceGodzilla crashed to Earth in Los Angeles, having been attacked by Trilopods which successfully absorbed his blood and created a SpaceGodzilla-Trilopod hybrid. Meanwhile, the Megaguirus-Trilopod hybrid carrying Godzilla flew in from Peru and deposited the King of the Monsters on the ground near his extraterrestrial doppelganger. Godzilla and SpaceGodzilla both tried to fight the Trilopods on their own to no avail, and resorted to forging an uneasy alliance to save themselves. After both Trilopods were slain, SpaceGodzilla turned towards the exhausted Godzilla and prepared to execute him, but he spied the Trilopod hive descending from space and decided to flee the planet instead. The hive landed, followed by the Cryog fleet which mastered it, and began sending out Trilopod hunting pods all over the world to capture the Earth's kaiju to serve as DNA sources for the Trilopods. Six Trilopods emerged from the hive and fused into three Godzilla-Trilopods, two of which began rampaging and were attacked by CKR forces, while the third lingered around the unconscious Godzilla. Jet Jaguar arrived in the city, wielding an anchor, and began to fight off the Trilopods.

As the hunting pods assimilated into the Trilopod hive after collecting kaiju from across the globe, Godzilla awakened and killed the Godzilla-Trilopod standing watch over him. Godzilla went to battle another before the hive fired lasers down on him. Soon after, the Trilopod hybrids emerged from the hive and attacked Godzilla. However, Mechagodzilla and MOGUERA arrived to lend the King of the Monsters a hand, and King Caesar had arrived in Los Angeles and began to free the other Earth kaiju from the hive. As a Godzilla-Trilopod fought with Jet Jaguar, Zilla ambushed and killed it, following which Jet Jaguar took to the skies in order to destroy the Cryog warships above. Meanwhile, MOGUERA and Mechagodzilla were overwhelmed and destroyed by the horde of Trilopod-hybrids, prompting Godzilla to let out a loud roar, calling the other Earth kaiju for assistance. Just as Godzilla and the Earth kaiju began to triumph over the Trilopods, the largest and most powerful of the Trilopods, Magita, emerged from the hive. The Earth monsters seemed powerless against this new adversary thanks to her overwhelming size, easily overpowering them. However, Godzilla channeled as much power as he could muster, and fired a Hyper Spiral Heat Ray, wounding her, before using a nuclear pulse under her mouth and killing her completely.

Following the battle, Godzilla and the other kaiju left the city and went to the ocean.

Books

Godzilla vs. Gigan and the Smog Monster

Far below Los Angeles, Gigan caused an earthquake which damaged a factory. The damage to the factory drew Hedorah to the city, who began to wreak havoc on it, melting the Hollywood sign in the process. Gigan emerged soon after, going down his own path of destruction. Rodan later appeared in LA to face his ancient enemy in the form of Hedorah, but the Smog Monster got then upper hand with his poisonous attacks. Meanwhile, Gigan ravaged Hollywood Boulevard, with attack helicopters proving futile against the cyborg. Just as it seemed Rodan was finished, Godzilla came ashore at Santa Monica Beach and blasted Hedorah through the chest with his atomic breath, forcing the Smog Monster to retreat. Godzilla then turned his attention to Gigan, and the two battled. Though Godzilla's battle with the Cyborg Monster turned south, Rodan came to Godzilla's aid. As Godzilla and Gigan continued their fight, a fissure opened between the two monsters, and Godzilla hurled Gigan down it, then blasted the Space Monster with an atomic breath before the fissure closed. With the two enemies defeated, Godzilla and Rodan left the city, with the citizens of Los Angeles grateful for the two monster's efforts.

GODZILLA: Monster Apocalypse

In 2030, the washed-up, mutilated corpse of Kamoebas IV and a drastic increase in missing ships in the South Pacific lead Dr. Kyohei Yamane to propose the existence of an unknown kaiju, which he named "Godzilla." Later that year, Godzilla proved his existence to humanity, making landfall in Los Angeles, where he slaughtered Anguirus IV, Baragon II, and Varan II before he destroyed the city himself.
