This page is about the Dark Horse comic series. For the Dark Horse one-shot, see Godzilla, King of the Monsters Special. For the Shogakukan manga which was translated and republished by Dark Horse, see Godzilla (1985 manga).

Godzilla, also called Godzilla, King of the Monsters on its covers, is a comic book series by Dark Horse, published from 1995 to 1996. Beginning as an expansion of the Godzilla story published in Dark Horse Comics #10-11, it starred the Fantastic Four-inspired G-Force team introduced in Godzilla Color Special, with Professor Noriko Yoshiwara and Burton Helzer from Godzilla, King of the Monsters Special as supporting characters. Like Marvel Comics in the 1970s, Dark Horse was unable to license any of Toho's other kaiju, so its writers invented new monsters for Godzilla to face instead. Godzilla's appearance and behavior were patterned after his Heisei incarnation: a mysterious and destructive force of nature whose opponents sometimes represented the greater of two evils.

Low sales caused the series to end partway through a story arc, which would have featured an army of monsters created by the mad scientist Dr. Yamazaki.

Issues

Trade paperbacks

In 1998 Dark Horse reprinted the series, along with all of its other Godzilla comics except Godzilla vs. Barkley, in two black-and-white trade paperbacks. Godzilla: Age of Monsters includes Godzilla, King of the Monsters Special, Godzilla Color Special, Godzilla versus Hero Zero, the story "Godzilla's Day" from Dark Horse Presents #106, and issues #0-4 and 16 of Godzilla. Godzilla: Past, Present, and Future contains issues #5-15 of Godzilla and the story "The Origin of a Species" from A Decade of Dark Horse #4 of 4.

Phase Six is currently translating and publishing the series in Japan under the title Godzilla: Classic Collection '95 (ゴジラ:クラシックコレクション’95,   Gojira Kurashikku Korekushon '95). The first volume was released on March 16, 2022, and the second on July 31, 2024.
