Plot

In 1989, friends Boco, Joe, and Junichi witness the arrival of swarms of Gyaos in Tokyo, which is followed by the appearance of Gamera - a monster who seems to protect the children. The kids - along with a new friend, Brody - embark on an adventure that results in various run-ins with other dangerous kaiju along with further encounters with Gamera himself, who never fails to rise to the challenges posed by new and increasingly deadly enemies.

Appearances

Differences from the series

  • The opening of the first chapter includes an extended flashback with Boco reminiscing about when he first witnessed Gamera appear.
  • The manga is noticeably gorier than the series. Blood is absent when the young Gyaos sever their victims' limbs in the series itself, but blood spatter is illustrated in the manga when they attack their victims.

Trivia

  • The manga adheres very closely to the source material. The majority of panels are direct recreations of shots from the series itself, with very few creative liberties taken.
