Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre (2024-2025)
Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre is a comic book miniseries from IDW Publishing. Written, illustrated, and colored by Tom Scioli, it is set in the 1920s and features Godzilla's first meeting with several public domain literary characters, including F. Scott Fitzgerald's Jay Gatsby, the Time Traveller from H. G. Wells's The Time Machine, Bram Stoker's Count Dracula, and Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. Historical figures like Jules Verne and Thomas Edison also appear throughout. The series consisted of three 48-page issues, which ran from October 23, 2024, to January 22, 2025.

Development
The series was exclusively announced by TheWrap on July 19, 2024.[1] The article included a look at the first issue's four covers as well as two preview pages.[1] Creator Tom Scioli described the 1920s setting as a novel one for Godzilla, "in the era of silent film, an era that is before comic books, before King Kong, but not so far in the distant past as to completely change the dynamics of a Godzilla story into something unrecognizable." The series' format of three issues with 40 story pages each was unusual for IDW Publishing, which typically publishes Godzilla miniseries in five installments with 22 story pages each, but Scoli explained, "Godzilla needs as big a stage as you can find."[2]
Trivia
- Most of Godzilla's adversaries in Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre have been in the public domain for many decades. The characters from The Great Gatsby are the exceptions, having only entered the United States public domain in 2021.
