"Dawn of Destoroyah" is the fourth issue of Godzilla: Rulers of Earth. It was released on September 25, 2013.

Description

While the CKR forces won the battle in San Diego, the war has just begun! When new forces pit their ultimate weapon against a weakened Godzilla, help from unexpected allies will be needed! The action hits a fever-pitch in an event that fans will be talking about for ages to come!

Plot

At the R&D Headquarters in San Diego, California, Steven Woods is being interrogated by a military officer who assures him that Allison will be fine. He asks Woods about the aliens Allison encountered, to which Woods replies that Allison saw a man come in, change forms, and kill everyone in the facility. The officer questions this, asking why would an alien race take the Godzilla specimen and why something would attack the USS Goldstein. Woods says that he doesn't know the answer to either question, and that he was not aware that the ship had been destroyed. The officer explains that it was attacked by what could have been a squid or a snake, or even both, and that the reactor is missing. No survivors were reported, but they're still looking. When Woods asks for Godzilla's status, the officer replies that they've deployed some ground units which will be approaching him by sea to finish him off, but they're having a hard time reaching him. Woods then tells his men to suit up, as Godzilla's going to have some company. Back in Malibu, news reporters and journalists begin reporting on Godzilla's seemingly dead body lying on the ground. However, Godzilla wakes up as multiple Aggregate Destoroyahs come and latch onto his head and neck. Godzilla stands up and unleashes a nuclear pulse which kills the Destoroyahs attached to him. While Godzilla stands still in the beach, Lucy and her fellow megazoologists-in-the-making are watching the report at the Beijing Capital International Airport. Kristina Sumres asks what the things attaching themselves to Godzilla are, to which Lucy explains they may be crustaceans, stating that the carapace goes all the way up to the rostrum. When Kristina states that they may be parasitic, Lucy concludes that all these new creatures (Gezora, Manda, and the Destoroyahs) must be appearing for a reason. Dr. Ando asks why would they be appearing, and Lucy replies that she doesn't know, but creatures adapt to changes in their environment and that in this case, Godzilla could be that reason.

Back on the shorelines, a giant, flightless Destoroyah surfaces and starts to battle Godzilla. Godzilla and Destoroyah exchange beams, but Destoroyah tanks the hit and slams Godzilla to the ground. Godzilla hits Destoroyah with his tail, only to have Destoroyah retaliate by grabbing Godzilla with his tail pincer and slamming him to the ground once again. A squadron of fighter jets arrive and open fire on Destoroyah, but the creature reveals a pair of massive wings and takes flight, destroying all the aircraft. Meanwhile, in outer space, the Cryogs are monitoring the fight as their leader Rhizon converses with the Devonian King, claiming that Destoroyah's power might make it so phase two of their plan wouldn't be necessary. Rhizon congratulates him on Destoroyah, declaring it a "remarkable" specimen. He reminds the Devonian that this plan must work and that the Cryogs cannot stay in space forever. This planet must become their new home. The Devonian acknowledges this and reports that they're analyzing the Godzilla skin specimen for a solution that allows to terraform the planet and eradicate its monsters. He states that they've have found an island to use as a trial run. Rhizon again congratulates his underwater ally when he's interrupted by one of his subordinates reporting that Mothra is heading towards the battle. Destoroyah is knocked down by the Divine Moth and retaliates by shooting his Micro-oxygen Beam at her. When she dodges the attack, the crustacean uses his tail pincer to grab her by the throat. As Destoroyah has Mothra at his mercy, Godzilla resurfaces from the ocean with the USS Goldstein's missing reactor. Destoroyah throws Mothra to the ground and before being headbutted by Godzilla. The two exchange beam attacks as Mothra dives in and slams into the back of Destoroyah's head, distracting him long enough for Godzilla to grab his tail and slam him to the ground. As the battle continues, two twin Mothra larvae come swimming from the ocean as live feed showcasing the battle is cut. Jason Ford tells Lucy that they might get the feed back on his laptop on the plane and Dr. Ando suggests saving their batteries until they get to the jeeps.

Back in the battlefield, Mothra pushes Godzilla out of the way before using her scales on Destoroyah, causing him to cough up blood. Destoroyah retaliates by using his Horn Katana on her. Mothra hits the ground and Godzilla slams Destoroyah's face with his tail. Destoroyah lashes out at him with his Horn Katana, but Godzilla grabs and rips it off. Godzilla fires his atomic breath at Destoroyah and the larvae use their silk webbing to trap him. The webbing completely covers Destoroyah and the Aggregate forms emerge from the cocoon as they try to escape. Godzilla incinerates them once and for all with one last shot of his atomic breath. As Godzilla leaves the shore, one of the Mothra larvae tries to bite at the tip of Godzilla's tail, but a stern glare makes the infant reconsider. Godzilla acknowledges Mothra and her larvae, who gently put her wings on their backs and ferry her across the sea. Woods and his soldiers arrive in the battle's aftermath as Woods states his surprise that Godzilla and Mothra actually worked together. They find the Goldstein's reactor that Godzilla took and theorize that he must've used it to lure Destoroyah to shore to have a better chance at defeating him alongside Mothra. With all that's happening, Woods simply hopes that Godzilla stays on their side as he believes something big is on the horizon. Meanwhile, Lucy and the others arrive at the Huanren Reservoir in China at the site as they investigate reports of an unknown kaiju being spotted in the area, whom the government has asked them to help find. Shawn asks what happened to Godzilla and Ando replies that they haven't had cell coverage for several hours. Lucy tells anyone who is still able to take pictures to take some of the "unbelievable" shot of the reservoir as a large reptilian monster rises from the water: Varan. However, the soldiers insist that this wasn't monster they were looking for.
