Gamera the Giant Monster 2: Gamera vs. Gyaos (大怪獣ガメラ2 大怪獣空中戦ガメラ対ギャオスの巻, Daikaijū Gamera Tsū: Daikaijū Kūchūsen Gamera tai Gyaosu no Maki, lit. "Gamera the Giant Monster 2 - Giant Monster Midair Battle: Gamera vs. Gyaos") is a 1995 manga adaptation of the 1967 film Gamera vs. Gyaos created by Yoshimi Hamada. The second installment in a series of adaptations based on the Showa Gamera films, it was published by Tokuma Shoten as part of their Shonen Captain Comics line.
Plot
The sudden and unexplained eruption of Mount Fuji attracts the attention of Gamera. Soon after, a new, winged monster appears and devours a newspaper reporter who was investigating the site, but before Gyaos can also eat a young boy named Eiichi, Gamera confronts Gyaos. After engaging Gyaos, Gamera places Eiichi on his back and escorts him away from the area. Eiichi dubs the new monster Gyaos, who later battles Gamera again in Nagoya which results in the heroic turtle biting off Gyaos' toes. The military attempts to exploit Gyaos' recently-discovered weakness to light, though the plan ultimately fails. In the end, Gamera fights Gyaos one last time and finally defeats him by dragging the bat monster into the crater of Mount Fuji, killing him.
Differences from the film
- Though Gamera vs. Gyaos was the third entry of the film series, the manga adaptation is presented as the second volume of the manga series.
