Kong: The Great War, also known as King Kong: The Great War, is a six-issue limited comic series written by Alex Cox with art by Tommasso Bianchi, and published by Dynamite Entertainment from May 10, 2023, to September 18, 2024. It is a part of DeVito ArtWorks' King Kong of Skull Island property.
Issues
Development
Kong: The Great War, referred to as "Kong Great War" in some pre-release material,[1] is the first project to come out of a deal struck between DeVito and Dynamite Entertainment that was announced in August of 2021 to introduce new games and comics using DeVito's Kong license.[2] While initially slated for release in early March of 2023, it was quietly pushed back several times to April 19th, and again to May 10th. All throughout these delays, the first issue was without a finalized cover, while the second issue was eventually announced alongside a corresponding cover. The series continued to face scheduling issues for the duration of its run. Dynamite.com's official listing for the 6th and final issue advertises a release date of November 2023, but supplier websites advertised a release in September 2024, before later being pushed back to October 30th, almost a year after its intended release date. The resulting erratic release schedule left a two-month wait for the release of the second issue, a typical one-month wait for the third, another two months before the fourth issue, five months until the fifth, and another five months before the release of the final issue.
While the series itself is printed with the title King Kong: The Great War, the copyright text reveals that it is officially registered and considered internally by Dynamite as Kong: The Great War.
