Kong of Skull Island #5 is a comic book by BOOM! Studios. It was released in November 2016.

Plot

After five days on Skull Island, things are not looking up for the Taguatu people. They live in constant fear of the monsters, more eruptions, or of being left behind in an evacuation, and V'Drell's constant speeches of the humans' destiny to rule the entire island plays on existing fears and angers and sends more Tagu to his cause. Each day, fewer Kong return from the jungles on their missions for food and supplies. As V'Drell rallies the masses, and claims that the gods demand action, Ewata reveals to the crowd that that morning Valla discovered a blood trail from a recent Deathrunner attack, and organizes a party to enter the monsters' nest to eliminate them. Faced with a difficult battle situation, Ewata asks V'Drell and Usana for advice, V'Drell however, reasons that since the Atu Kong won the competition back on their original island, that the Atu trainer Gret should lead the party. Gret however, insists that Ewata continue as leader for her knowledge of how to work with Kong as a team. While coming up with a strategy, Ewata came across a Triceratops skeleton, and has Valla use the skull as a weapon against the two Deathrunners. Valla then sits to rest, much to the ire of V'Drell, who commands that she get up, despite Ewata's informing him that Valla needs to rest, which when backed up by Gret, was accepted. During the break, V'Drell learns that the scents associated with larger monsters keep the smaller ones away, and they begin to create aromatic mixtures made from the flowers that grow near their caves. Usana then calls Ewata away to inform her that she knows K'reti loved her and considered their marriage a peace treaty, and that she needs to know if her loyalty is to the crown. Ewata responds that she is loyal to the people and will decide her loyalty when they are safe. They then continue through the jungle and are attacked by Deathrunners. Usana and V'Drell then discuss the troubling dissent in the people, which Usana is sure could make them gods if they bring peace, or doom the civilization if they fail. While voyaging through the jungle, Ewata vomits on the ground, causing one of the party members to believe she is pregnant. On deducing that she is carrying K'reti's child, and thus true royal blood, V'Drell reverse engineers the monster repellent to attract monsters, which he plans to give Ewata to kill the child. Despite Usana's misgivings, V'Drell convinces her that the Deathrunners would have eliminated it sooner or later, and that the scent would simply kill it quicker. When they reach the Deathrunner cave, Ewata, Valla, Tuno, Takani, and two other party members go in to investigate. The Kong on the mountain sounded a warning to those below as Deathrunners surrounded them, and an enormous, two-headed one, later known as Gaw ate Mbeti.
