Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors - All Hail the King! #2 is a comic book from IDW Publishing. It was released on November 9, 2022.[1]

Description

Cedric and his friends are having terrible dreams thanks to the Xiliens, who are using psychic technology to probe the minds of every living creature on Earth. That's the bad news. The worse news is it has pinpointed the den of King Ghidorah. The good news is the probe makes the Shobijin aware of danger on the horizon and allows them to warn our kaiju-connected heroes to be on the lookout-Cedric, Emily, Anderson...and Karen Higa, too![1]

Plot

Godzilla blasts Gabara out of the ocean and onto an island. The ogre is stunned, but recovers quickly and shocks Godzilla. The King of the Monsters responds with a tail whip and atomic breath. Gabara appears defeated, only to regain his feet with the glowing silhouette of a three-headed dragon at his back. All three dragon heads spit lightning at Godzilla... causing Cedric to wake up. He confirms with Emily and Anderson that they all had the same dream again before falling back asleep. At school the next day, they try telepathically contacting the Shobijin for answers, but receive no response. Karen notes that while Okinawan folklore tells of methods that allow humans and kaiju to form a bond, dreams have never been a part of them, but Cedric dismisses her due to her lack of first-hand experience.

Elsewhere in Japan, the Xiliens and Nomura have excavated the earth above the slumbering three-headed dragon. Commander Z explains to Nomura how their Dream Sifter discovered the monster, which they hope to use to destroy Godzilla and force humanity into a quick surrender. An Xilien uses the Dream Sifter to learn the monster's history and name: Ghidorah. A three-brained alien, it landed on Earth millions of years ago and killed countless dinosaurs. However, the impact of its asteroid landing blotted out the sun, causing an even greater extinction event and depriving it of food. It has been hibernating and growing ever since. Commander Z prepares to proceed with the plan, but Nomura questions why the Xiliens are unable to simply control Godzilla or humanity's armies. Commander Z explains that Godzilla has already thrown off their attempts to command him, and human minds cannot be controlled for extended periods. Nomura continues to question his subtle methods, sparking the aliens' anger. He reminds Nomura that they are not equals.

The Shobijin contact Cedric, Emily, Anderson, and Karen while they're in class, allowing them to remotely view Infant Island. They pepper the fairies with questions, but they only have time for a few answers. They explain that an extraterrestrial presence is responsible for their dreams, and is in the process of awakening a dreadful monster unknown to them. Since Cedric, Emily, and Anderson have a similar connection to Godzilla as they do to Mothra, they may be able to quickly spur him into action to battle it. Karen and her family are connected to another benevolent monster. When Cedric questions why this monster didn't help them against Godzilla when he was on the warpath, the Shobijin respond that destiny simply had other plans. With Mothra slumbering to regain her strength, they entrust the defense of the Earth to the kids and their monsters. After they break the connection, May expresses doubts that Godzilla will answer their call, as he's never had a connection with humans before.
