Urban Legends issue 1
|
Urban Legends #1[a] is an anthology comic book published by Dark Horse in June 1993. It contains short, illustrated accounts of fictional but believable tales invented by, or relevant to, their various authors. One such entry is "King Kong vs. Godzilla", a one-page comic by Arthur Adams debunking a famous rumor that Godzilla defeats King Kong in the eponymous 1962 film's Japanese version, and vice versa in its U.S. version. Though the issue was planned as the first in a two-issue miniseries, a second issue never materialized.

Subject: King Kong vs. Godzilla
In the United States it is widely believed that there were two different conclusions shot for this fine film. One for the U.S. in which Kong was victorious, and another for Japan in which Godzilla won the battle. This is not true! It is true that there were many changes made to the U.S. release (alterations made by American producer John Beck), with much of the original soundtrack replaced by "Creature from the Black Lagoon's" score. And, yes, great chunks of the film were hacked out, and replaced with lame news coverage. The conclusions were basically identical -- Kong swimming for home. But, if these two titans were actually to clash in a duel to the death, who would win? Who can know?! |
