Godzilla: Cataclysm (ゴジラ:カタクリズム is a comic book miniseries by Gojira: Katakurizumu)IDW Publishing, written by Cullen Bunn and illustrated by Dave Wachter. The series was announced in May of 2014, and the first issue was released on August 13, 2014. It chronicles a post-apocalyptic world in which Godzilla has sent human civilization back to a more primitive state. A small village scrapes along scavenging the ruins and fishing, with some of the younger generations seeing the kaiju as deities and worshiping them. The story follows the characters Hiroshi, his grandson Arata and his friend Shiori. When Arata and Shiori come into possession of a regenerating fragment of Biollante following a battle with Godzilla, they learn that she may be the key to restoring the former greenness of the Earth. However, Godzilla is intent on keeping mankind in its current state and intends to destroy Biollante, whereas Mothra fights to defend Biollante so she can fully regenerate and restore the world. All three monsters will face a bigger common threat in the form of Destoroyah, who arises from the sea to kill everything in his path.
Cataclysm was republished as part of the Godzilla: World of Monsters trade paperback in August 2021, along with Godzilla: Gangsters & Goliaths and Godzilla: Oblivion. Phase Six announced plans to localize the comic in Japan in 2023.[1] Saldapress translated and released the series in Italy across three issues from December 2020 to February 2021.
