Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #4 is the fourth issue of IDW Publishing and BOOM! Studios' five-issue crossover comic miniseries. It was published on July 20, 2022.[1]

Description

Godzilla and the Megazord team up to battle a host of giant monsters - some from the world of the Power Rangers, some from Godzilla's world! Meanwhile, the Green Ranger attempts a daring escape from the clutches of Rita! And the most terrifying challenge yet from Godzilla's greatest foe is about to erupt into a full-blown kaiju free-for-all!

Plot

Godzilla and the Megazord find themselves surrounded by Megaguirus, Kumonga, Kamacuras, and Scorpina in her monstrous form. Godzilla fires his atomic breath at Kamacuras, who flies out of the way, while Kumonga ensnares the Megazord in its webbing. Megaguirus launches a fireball at Godzilla as Scorpina prepares to strike the helpless Megazord with her giant sword. Fortunately, Godzilla blasts all of the villains with a powerful atomic heat ray, saving the Megazord. The Blue Ranger remarks that it seems Godzilla understands their need to work together, but the Yellow Ranger is skeptical and reminds him how Godzilla was trying to kill them not too long ago. Aboard the Xilien UFO, Rita Repulsa angrily orders Scorpina not to let Godzilla and the Rangers rally and to finish them off. Scorpina pushes Kumonga, demanding that it web their enemies up so that they cannot fight back. Enraged, Kumonga begins spitting webbing at Scorpina, prompting Rita to ask the Supreme Controller of Planet X why their monster is attacking her servant. The Supreme Controller reminds her that the monsters the Xiliens summon cannot be controlled. Trapped in Kumonga's webbing, Scorpina laments that these foolish monsters do not respect her leadership abilities. Rita angrily declares that the reason the Xiliens haven't conquered the Earth yet is because their forces lack a chain of command. Godzilla crushes Kumonga with his tail, while the Megazord knocks out Kamacuras with a kick to the face. Weakened and covered in webbing, Scorpina limps away and says that she would rather die at the hands of Godzilla than the Power Rangers. Rita becomes furious and raises her staff at the Supreme Controller, demanding that he summon the most terrible of all of his race's monsters. He responds that it would be a pointless effort, as he will not summon any more monsters, even the dreaded "Monster Zero," without absolute certainty of victory, calling Rita far too rash in her decision-making. Rita angrily declares that she is taking over, and has Goldar knock out the Xilien guards. She orders Finster to summon the Xiliens' worst monster, and he complies.

In a hail of lightning, a massive golden three-headed dragon who dwarfs even Godzilla arrives on the battlefield. Rita is impressed by the creature, which the Controller explains is called King Ghidorah. Ghidorah immediately blasts Godzilla and the Megazord with his gravity beams, knocking Godzilla to the ground. The Megazord is able to withstand a few blasts thanks to its Mastodon Shield, then charges at King Ghidorah with its Power Sword. Ghidorah simply wraps his tails around the Megazord and lifts it into the sky before dropping it into the ocean below. He then bombards the Megazord with a hail of gravity beams before Godzilla interrupts him with a blast of atomic breath. Ghidorah drops down into the water to confront Godzilla, strangling him with his tails and draining his energy. Rita gleefully remarks that King Ghidorah has crushed the Megazord and is overpowering Godzilla as well, but the beast immediately turns his gaze to the Xilien UFO and blasts it with his gravity beams. Rita asks why Ghidorah is attacking them, and the Supreme Controller responds that he warned her that the monster was unpredictable. Damage sustained to the UFO causes the prison holding Tommy Oliver to malfunction, allowing him to escape. He immediately subdues several Xilien guards, but one holds him at gunpoint. King Ghidorah circles around the crippled Megazord and Godzilla, blasting both with his gravity beams as the Megazord's interior begins to flood. After Ghidorah delivers a seemingly fatal blast of gravity beams to his foes, Rita is satisfied with their demise and orders Finster to quickly send Ghidorah back from whence he came. Finster responds that he doesn't know how, and Rita warns the Supreme Controller that he had better help them unless he wants the ship destroyed. King Ghidorah again blasts the UFO with his gravity beams, staggering the Xilien guard and giving Tommy a window to attack. However, the Xilien informs him that he is setting him free, as the conquest of Earth has proven too costly, especially since Rita's arrival. He tells Tommy to save his friends and gives him his Power Coin, allowing him to morph into the Green Ranger. He thanks the Xilien, who responds that they are both still enemies and that his race's goals have not changed.

As King Ghidorah continues to bombard the UFO with gravity beams, Rita frantically orders Finster to send Ghidorah home. Finster reports that nothing is working, as the Supreme Controller states that the teleportation drives seem to be malfunctioning. Goldar asks Rita to send him out to battle Ghidorah, promising that he will destroy him and use his golden hide to reinforce his own armor. Rita agrees and tells Finster to send all of her remaining monsters as well. King Ghidorah is promptly knocked out of the sky by attacks from Rita's monsters, then crashes to the ground. As he stands back up, he is approached by the now-giant Goldar along with Scorpina, Snizzard, Grumble Bee, and Slippery Shark. Ghidorah charges his gravity beams as Rita's monsters leap at him and prepare to attack. Rita declares that King Ghidorah will soon fall to her monsters and this world will be hers. After that, she says, she will use the Multiversal Focus to conquer countless more worlds.
