Iron Man #196 is the untitled 196th issue of Iron Man. It was released in July 1985.

Plot

On discovering that his Godzilla mutation had recovered the abandoned pieces of the original Iron Man suit from the bottom of the sea, Doctor Demonicus shelves his plans to use his monster and its incubating clones to institute his "Pax Demonicus", a term he uses for his prospective planet-wide empire, in order to exact revenge on Iron Man. Tony Stark, the former Iron Man, however, is content to leave superhero-dom behind until the current iteration of the Iron Man armor re-appears from its being lost in a pocket dimension, and nearly kills a pair of balloonists and tarnishes the Iron Man name. He prepares to go and find the rogue element, as Demonicus, who had followed Hawkeye and Mockingbird back to Avengers Headquarters. However, he mistakes the alien for the real Iron Man, and the two begin to fight. On seeing his suits fighting, Tony feels a responsibility to stop them, which he ultimately does by magnetizing them together. Demonicus is apprehended, vowing the Avengers will regret their interference with his Pax Demonicus, and the alien leaves the suit behind, saying "You're welcome" in a voice only audible to James Rhodes.
