Description
"The damn dirty crossover event you demanded! Following the events of the first Planet of the Apes film (1968), Dr. Zaius and General Ursus lead a small group of soldiers to the Forbidden Zone to destroy any remaining evidence of Taylor's time among them. To their surprise, they discover... A KONG! Now they must venture to Skull Island with Cornelius and Zira to discover the truth, but they may not survive the deadliest journey of their lives!"[1]
Plot
In the year 3978, after a time-displaced human named Taylor destroyed the reputations of Doctors Zira and Cornelius and threw the ape civilization into turmoil, the chief scientist and keeper of the ape religion Dr. Zaius led a mission into the "Forbidden Zone;" the remains of New York City. His mission was to destroy the remains of the Statue of Liberty in a ploy to keep ape-kind oblivious to the fact that they were living on a planet once dominated by humans. Just after giving the order to detonate, a frightened gorilla soldier under the command of General Ursus came to fetch Zaius, claiming to have found something huge behind the statue. who summoned the disgraced Zira and Cornelius to study the corpse of a gigantic female ape that had washed ashore. The autopsy shortly began and, in time, Zaius was allowed to mount an expedition to Skull Island. Elsewhere, the scientists who had aided Taylor in disproving their religion passed the time in house arrest by playing chess with their friend Dr. Milo before Zaius arrived to escort them to the site of the carcass of a gargantuan ape. In order to distract the general public from Taylor the talking human, Zaius lifted their house arrest and allowed the two to dissect the mysterious creature. General Ursus, however, believed that she should be revered as a god, and not dissected for science. While they worked and examined aspects of her body, Zaius examined ancient documents taken from the Forbidden Zone and determined that an expedition had to be mounted to discover the creature's origin. Ursus readied a ship and a crew and they prepared to set sail for lands far beyond the apes' knowledge. With the giant's skull strapped to their bow, the apes spent 16 arduous days at sea before reaching Warm Water Island in what was once called Kenya. There they spoke to the local doctor and leader who urged them not to continue their search, and instead to enjoy their time together before going home. Back on the open ocean the ship was menaced by a giant cephalopod, and then a massive Pteranodon. They narrowly managed to survive by shooting them both until they retreated. A roar came from the night time, and they saw that they had arrived at the fabled Skull Island.
