"Godzilla Versus Batragon!" is the fourth issue of Marvel's Godzilla. It was released in November of 1977.

Plot

Batragon has been attacking oil tankers off the North Pacific Coast for its master Dr. Demonicus, who seeks to use the oil in his operations. However, this recent attack is interrupted when Godzilla arrives to attack the monster and injure him, bringing S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Godzilla Squad not far behind.

Dugan checks in on Takiguchi and his clan's progress in the Stark plant before following Godzilla. Godzilla follows the injured Batragon back to the island of Dr. Demonicus, who has used a glowing meteor that he calls the "Lifestone" that is found at the bottom of a crater of a dormant volcano on the island to give life to his monsters Batragon, Ghilaron, Lepirax, and Centipor. Because of this, all four of the monsters are dependent on the Lifestone to the extent that if they ever leave it, they have to return to it every few hours just to stay alive.

After Godzilla arrives on the island and both terrorizes Demonicus' Demon-Soldiers and attempts to aid the Inuit slaves that they have forced into laboring for them, Batragon battles Godzilla once more. When Batragon is killed by Godzilla, Demonicus almost decides to unleash all three of his remaining creations to fight Godzilla, just as S.H.I.E.L.D. arrives and attacks him. Demonicus then changes his mind and decides to play both Godzilla and S.H.I.E.L.D. against each other, then release his three monsters and send them out to kill the winner of the fight.
