Plot
As a young girl, Emi witnessed the final confrontation between Mothra and Antra, which led to the deaths of her parents—and, seemingly, her twin sister Mira. The ant kaiju pins Mothra against a building, then stabs her with its pincers as she is fed upon by its ravenous drones. Emi bears a grudge against Mothra for her defeat.
Fifteen years later, Emi survives in the ruins of the city where Mothra fell, living in the hollowed-out skull of an ant drone, evading its still-living brethren, and scavenging in grocery stores. As she starts a fire outside her home, she is approached by a cloaked figure who reveals herself to be Mira. She carries Mothra's tiny priestesses, the Shobijin, in her backpack, and explains that they rescued her from Antra and have been training her in magic. Mothra's death has weakened the Shobijin, and she has been working with them on a ritual song to restart the insect's life cycle. Antra, they reveal, was created by the Earth itself, but went rogue. She killed Mothra before she could lay an egg, and without a new Mothra, the planet is doomed. Mira herself assumed that Emi had perished until she had a dream about her, leading her to seek her out. As they share the same abilities, Emi could help them complete the song. Emi brings Mira inside to talk to her privately, bitter that her sister only sought her out for something related to Mothra. Mira insists that she would have looked for her regardless had she known she was alive, and pleads for her help in healing the world. Just then Emi notices a Meganulon on the ceiling, poised to lunge at Mira. She pulls her sister away, then rescues the Shobijin at her insistence. As the insect monster closes in, she fires a nail into its eye with a slingshot. The twins outrun the enraged creature and hide behind a wall as it passes them by.
Mira is amazed at Emi's heroics, while the twins explain that the Meganulon is one of the many monsters who has awakened since Mothra's passing. They task Mira and Emi with retrieving a Mothra egg from the time of the dinosaurs. Mira is hopeful that they could save their parents in the process, and at this possibility, Emi agrees to help them. Mira excitedly reveals her priestess outfit, which she finds far too revealing, putting her pants back on underneath it. Mira draws a magic circle using chalk as the Shobijin light candles. Emi and Mira harmonize with the Shobijin, and their song opens a portal. Awed, they step through to the prehistoric past.
As the portal closes, the Shobijin welcome the Handmaidens of Antra, confirming that the twin humans have left. They reply that "everything is as it should be."

Trivia
- This issue marks the debut of Antra, an original monster created specifically for the comic. It also marks the first appearance of Godzillasaurus in any American comic.
- The Anguirus-like ankylosaur appears to be based on the Anguirus design created for the unmade film Godzilla X Varan, Baragon and Anguirus: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack.
- The Titanosaurus-like sauropods also appear to be based on the dubious genus of sauropod dinosaur of the same name.
- The Rodan-like bird and pterosaurs that appear are based on the kaiju's Showa and Heisei incarnations, respectively.
- The bird may also be based on early concepts for the 1956 Rodan, which gave it an Archaeopteryx-like appearance.
- This comic features the Meganulon designs from both Rodan and Godzilla vs. Megaguirus.
- A poster for Jem appears in Mira's home; Sophie Campbell previously illustrated the first 16 issues of IDW Publishing's ongoing Jem and the Holograms comic.
- The IDW Monthly Title Catalog for December 2024 used this issue's Cover A as its cover.[2]
