"Chapter VI: The Wall"[a] is the sixth and final issue of Dynamite Entertainment's horror comic series Kong: The Great War. It was published on October 23, 2024.[1]

Description

After five days of near-relentless onslaught by creatures beyond imagination, the crew of U-184 has been reduced to a few desperate survivors - and Kong is revved up to finish the job! Before the night is over, their fate will be sealed - but will any remain alive to tell the tale? Find out in this final issue of Kong: The Great War, written with savage fury by ALEX COX and illustrated with gruesome beauty by TOMMASSO BIANCHI![2]

Plot

Before the mission began, the captain, whose name is revealed to be "Otto" was given the task of establishing control of the sparsely charted South Pacific waters. He remembers the U-184 being dragged under by the teal-tentacled beast, and his time in the water before arriving to the island and his envy of the dead. When he regains consciousness, he sees Werner sinking, and drags him to the surface, only to discover that the old mariner had finally succumbed to the island, leaving him the only survivor of his ship. He hangs his officer's coat on a nearby branch and makes a plan to get to the civilization he saw from the top of the mountain. He tells himself that if there are other people here, they will be able to help him contact Berlin. He reasons that they must help him as fellow men. He reflects on how he failed his men, how even Werner did not hesitate to jump when given the order. Back at the mountain, Kong catches his scent. As the ape follows Otto's trail he comes across a particularly prickly Triceratops who manages to spike Kong in the mouth before Kong grabs it by its two forehorns and flips it over his head, flinging it high into the air. He then tears the beast's head off in celebration of his victory. All the while Otto reflects on he and the Empire's hubris, as none of them imagined that such a merciless, wild creature without fear had been waiting to remind them of their helplessness. Otto continues running through the jungle, eventually stumbling on a root and taking a nasty fall. When he is conscious again, he sees that he is at the foot of the gigantic wall he had seen, and is in fact right at its very gate. Rejoicing for his saviors, he calls out for help to the men with torches standing along its top. In response they douse their lights as the captain's shouts become quiet pleas.

Otto remembers his assignment to the mission. His superior made sure he knew that his mission was top secret, and that if anything should happen to him or the U-184, he would not be recieving Imperial assistance. He had accepted the mission without question. In the present, Otto spies two nearby poles with chains attached to their tops, and the base they stood on which was littered with bones. He realizes that he is not being saved from the Beast, but sacrificed to it. He understands now that this is no Hell or purgatory, but the true and unleashed horrors of the real world, and he now stands before the king of them all. Kong sizes up the puny human at his altar, and smashes him beneath his giant foot.
