Godzilla #12 is a comic book from IDW Publishing, and the conclusion of its series' second story arc, Energy Unleashed. It was published on July 1, 2026.[1]

Description

Discover the truth about the girl with the power of Biollante as the second arc of the Godzilla ongoing series comes to a close! The boy with the power of Godzilla, the girl with the power of Biollante…and a truth that will rattle G-Force to its core. Something rotten is happening at the center of this world, and Jacen is going to get to the bottom of it.[1]

Plot

May's Biollantress form continues pummeling Godzilla as Jacen Braid contemplates how easy it was for her to harm the Monster King by herself compared with him. Though his body shares Godzilla's pain, his mind is elsewhere, reliving the past with May. They watch their younger selves playing together in the laboratory where his mother Jocelyn worked. She enters with his father Garrett just then, along with Daniel Onishi, explaining that Jacen and May are the only two children to show genetic anomalies of the type he's looking for. Onishi handles the younger May affectionately, preferring to call her Biollantress over her Bio-Lon 2 codename. She comments that it didn't last; he soon began viewing her as a weapon again.

Onishi explains to G-Force, Harry, and Angela that May has trained all her life to control kaiju and could very well defeat Godzilla. Harry and Angela beg for a chance to try and reach her, while Marco Petithomme ponders the barrel of De-Freaker strapped to Incense's back. Upon learning how many more barrels the farmers have in storage, Petithomme suggests pouring it into the aquifer, as Biollantress is reliant on the area's groundwater. Onishi agrees, ordering Riviera to carry the barrels with Incense as punishment for his insubordination. He asks Dr. Rubi Chiba to try and reach May's mind and give her a chance to stand down, though he quickly corrects her pronoun to "it".

Jacen and May press on to see how exactly they were created, following Jocelyn and Garrett. He's reluctant to work with Onishi, but she believes G-Force is the only route to access Godzilla's Kai-Sei energy—as well as G-Mutant One, the Deadzone's Wanderer, who stands before them suspended in a tube. Garrett wonders if G-Force's experiments on him in New York City make them the real monsters, but Jocelyn replies that they can give him a purpose and save the world. Jacen realizes in shock that the Wanderer is the source of their abilities, with May calling him their real father.

Godzilla continues to struggle against Biollantress. Chiba tries again to psychically transfer Harry and Angela's affection to her, but her mental defenses prove impenetrable. As they carry the final barrels of De-Freaker to the well, Riviera, Incense, Onishi, and Petithomme are set upon by a half-skeletal Ursogar, reanimated by May. Chiba finds herself equally unable to reach Jacen, contemplating that May must be offering him a sense of belonging that she can't. Nuki, arriving in Jet Jaguar's hands, comments that while Chiba accomplished a lot with Jacen, she also tried to change him, and right now he needs someone who will accept him for who he is. Chiba scolds Jet Jaguar for moving Nuki in her condition; she explains that she guilted him into it. Chiba agrees to contact her with Jacen telepathically, but warns her she'll be weaponless in his mind. Nuki admits that her defenses were down from the moment she met him.

Incense tries drenching Urosgar with the De-Freaker, but enough of its flesh is still left to render the substance ineffective. It charges—and Rodan picks it up, the winged kaiju having burned off the pollen controlling it in its fire form. As they battle, Riviera and Incense resume carrying the barrels to the well.

May is overjoyed to learn of their connection to the Wanderer, wanting to travel to the Deadzone to meet him, but Jacen is horrified to learn that the two of them are effectively products. She counters that they're family, the "wayward kids of Godzilla", and G-Force doesn't matter anymore. She reaches for his hand. On the ground, Harry and Angela contemplate the violence May inflicted on the bandits, realizing she was never theirs. Nuki suddenly appears in Jacen and May's mental space. She reassures him that he didn't mess up their date, clarifying that she brought Incense along to put someone between them. She adds that May is just using him to conquer Godzilla, but Nuki's affection for Jacen is genuine, despite her natural instinct to push people away. She promises to never hurt or use him. May gives into her rage, raving that she'll make him watch as she kills Nuki. Just then, the De-Freaker enters her system and Braid, returning to himself, unites with Godzilla to punch through her body with atomic breath.

May returns to human form, vowing to make a new body and drain the Earth dry if that's what it takes to kill Godzilla. Onishi approaches her. He apologizes, but remarks that she wanted to be a queen. Body disintegrating, she reaches for him, saying she just wanted to make him proud, before diminishing to a single rose. Godzilla, meanwhile, prepares to turn its wrath to Rodan, but Jacen reassures it that it's still the King of the Monsters. The winged kaiju promptly bows, and Godzilla roars in victory.

The G-Force team returns to its San Diego headquarters. Petithomme relays that Onishi wants Jacen locked up, but Chiba and Riviera agree that they trust Jacen, Riviera again shocked that they agree on something. He vows that Onishi will have to go through them to get to Jacen. He leaves to meet Nuki in the weight room. Despite the support of his teammates, he's resolved to leave G-Force, since the organization lied about who he was, and asks her to come with him. She refuses, saying that all she does is hurt people, and she can't bear the responsibility of Godzilla emerging if she does that to him. G-Force, on the other hand, is the only place where she has purpose. He reminds her that she promised. Resuming her assault on a punching bag, she tells him she lied.

Walking the halls of the headquarters alone, Jacen realizes he was looking for family, not revenge, when he joined G-Force. As he contemplates its importance, Rodan feeds its child, Harry and Angela stand at May's grave, Onishi ponders her picture on his desk. Exiting the building, Jacen plunges off the dock—and Godzilla emerges from the waters, with Braid resolving to destroy the organization that exploited him and wrecked the family he could have had.
