Himago Island
Himago Island (曾孫島 is a fictional island in the Ogasawara Islands which appears in the Himagojima)2003 Godzilla film Godzilla: Tokyo SOS, as the location of Mothra's egg.
Name
Himago Island's name contains the Japanese word for 'great-grandchild,' himago (曾孫), thus literally translating to "Great-Grandchild Island." It appears to follow the naming convention of many of the real-world Ogasawara Islands, such as Chichijima ("Father Island"), Hahajima ("Mother Island"), or Magojima ("Grandchild Island"), and may also be in reference to the fact that the Tokyo SOS Mothra and her offspring are descendants of the original Mothra who appeared in 1961. On-screen text in the original Japanese version of the film labels it Ogasawara Islands, Himago Island (小笠原諸島・曾孫島, while the export version reads Himago Island, the Bonin Islands. Ogasawarashotō Himagojima)
History
- Godzilla: Tokyo SOS (2003)
Millennium era
Godzilla: Tokyo SOS
As the imago Mothra launched a last-resort scale attack against Godzilla in Tokyo, the Shobijin Hio and Mana sang to her egg which had been laid inside a volcano on Himago Island. The twin fairies looked onto the battle as Japanese Prime Minister Hayato Igarashi ordered the immediate launch of Kiryu to aid against Godzilla. Mothra was eventually downed by a stray blast of Godzilla's atomic breath, leading twin Mothra larvae to hatch from the egg and make their way toward Tokyo by sea. As the JSDF detected the approaching larvae, Igarashi commented that Mothra must have laid her eggs on an island close to Tokyo so that her descendants could carry on the battle against Godzilla.
