Black Hole Planet 3 (ブラックホール第三惑星,   Burakkuhōru Dai San Wakusei, lit. Black Hole Planet No. 3) is the home planet of the Black Hole Planet 3 Aliens. Black Hole Planet 3 was first mentioned in the 1974 Godzilla film Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, and later made its first physical appearance in comics.

History

Showa series

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla

Black Hole Planet 3, as its name implies, was the third planet orbiting a black hole in outer space and also being drawn into it. As the planet's final days approached, its inhabitants unsuccessfully attempted to invade and conquer Earth as a new home world using their war machine Mechagodzilla, only to be defeated by Godzilla.

Terror of Mechagodzilla

In a last-ditch effort to save their species, the Black Hole Planet 3 Aliens invaded Earth a second time with a rebuilt Mechagodzilla and the mind-controlled dinosaur Titanosaurus. Ultimately, this final bid for a new planet also failed, with the last members of their race being eradicated when Godzilla destroyed their UFOs.

The Black Hole Planet 3 Aliens detail their past in Godzilla

With their homeworld being dragged to its inevitable demise by a black hole within their solar system, the Black Hole Planet 3 Aliens launched expeditions to explore new planets suitable for colonization - with one such planet, Earth, being designated as a suitable replacement for their species. The Black Hole Planet 3 Aliens later explained their backstory to members of G-Force as they prepared to eradicate humanity, though their plans were later thwarted by their rival Dianii aliens and Godzilla.

Godzilla: Legends

The Simian armada on Black Hole Planet 3 in Godzilla: Legends #3

With a black hole gradually dragging their planet to its demise, the Simians prepared to launch a full-scale invasion of Earth to ensure their species' survival, amassing a great armada which included multiple Mechagodzillas. The Simian leader, Mugal, also infiltrated Earth in the hopes of manipulating psychic humans into controlling the planet's monsters for them, with the young boy Tristan being the first to do so as he formed a bond with Titanosaurus. The Simians later abducted Tristan and Titanosaurus, bringing them to their homeworld as they prepared to force them to aid their armada so that they could one day claim Earth for themselves.

Trivia

  • The Bilusaludo in the GODZILLA anime trilogy, an alien race heavily inspired by the Black Hole Planet 3 Aliens, also arrived on Earth following the destruction of their homeworld Bilusaludia, the third planet in its system, by a black hole.
