"Attack! The Impactors" (襲撃!インパクター Shūgeki! Inpakutā) is the thirteenth episode of The Gransazers and the first episode of the show's second story arc. Directed by Hirochika Muraishi and written by Toshimichi Okawa, it aired on December 27, 2003.
Plot
After working on his motorcycle, Kudo Tenma goes to visit Jin Hakariya, who is working hard at a fashion design firm. Meanwhile, a meteor is seen nearing Earth as Ken Shido and Ran Saotome relax on an island beach. That night, a storm hits, cutting off communications in Ichiro Horiguchi's lab. Horiguchi, who has found out about the meteor, tells Tenma that should it hit earth it will explode with a force of 2000 megatons and wipe out the island where Ken and Ran are. As the weather worsens, two Impactors depart from the asteroid and land on the island. As Tenma and Mika Shido panic about the situation, Ultra Star Carrier Cloud Dragon emerges from the atmosphere and obliterates the meteor. However, meteorites rain down, causing destruction near the island and shocking the Impactors, who have assumed human forms. The meteorites and the weather manage to dislodge a whale-like craft from the island, causing it to fall into the sea.
The next morning, Ken and Ran report the whale to Horiguchi, who confides in Atsushi Misonogi that it may be the fourth Ultra Star God. To avoid a panic, Misonogi arranges to have it towed to a military port. Tenma and Mika arrive at the port, having been told the whale is indeed the fourth Ultra Star God, Leviathan. They also realize this must mean there is another tribe of Gransazers. Suddenly, however, Mika spots a man taking photos of them and the mecha, believing he is a paparazzi. Later, Impactor Lucia meets with her companion and tells him of the asteroid's fate. The two then plan to destroy Leviathan, with Impactor Radia wishing to see the Gransazers' power first. He then sends his men to assail the port, but they are interrupted by Tenma, who transforms into Sazer Tarious to fight them. After managing to defeat them, he consults with Ken and Mika, but is interrupted when Mika spots the photographer from earlier, with the two rushing to confront him. However, he reveals their identity before stealing Tenma's bike and escaping. However, Ken manages to find his identification, revealing him to be Makoto Sorimachi, a former war photographer. Tenma then stubbornly decides to look for his bike.
Sorimachi and two other Gransazers, Ai Uozumi and Tappei Mikami discuss the situation at Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise, with Sorimachi expressing doubt the flame tribe are their allies. Sorimachi also shows images of Leviathan to them, and recalls how they all met on the island of the whale god. All three had felt drawn to the island, with Sorimachi and Uozumi believing it was no coincidence. Sorimachi lures Tenma back to the port, with the latter frustratingly obliging to meet him alone. In the meantime, Impactor Radia assumes his true form and sets out to destroy the Gransazers. Meeting with Tenma, Sorimachi aggressively demands answers to the whereabouts of the other Gransazers and their mission, taunting him and suggesting he transform as Radia arrives and again subdues Misonogi's men. Tenma then rushes off to transform and fight them before being challenged by Radia, who gains the upper hand. After besting Tarious, Radia turns his attention to Leviathan. However, Sorimachi transforms into Sazer Gorbion and swears to protect Leviathan, and the two begin to battle.
