"Terzetto" (はるかなるいえじ,   Harukanaru Ieji, lit. "A Distant Road to Home") is the debut episode of Godzilla Singular Point. Directed by Noriyuki Nomata and Takuma Suzuki, it premiered at the Godzilla Singular Point Completion Announcement Event at TOHO CINEMAS Hibiya on March 19, 2021, and was simultaneously streamed on YouTube exclusively in Japan. It aired on the Japanese Netflix on March 25 and on Japanese television on April 1.

Plot

As a festival takes place in the city of Nigashio, Otaki Factory employees Yun Arikawa and Haberu Kato investigate a deserted Western-style house rumored to be haunted. Inside, Yun remarks that the owner disappeared 50 years ago. The books on his shelves cover a staggering range of topics; from that and the decor, Yun deduces he was a frequent traveler who "died with a secret." An eerie song suddenly fills the air, which turns out to be coming from a crystal radio in a room hidden behind one of the bookshelves. As Yun records the song on his phone, the lights flicker and something roars outside. While waiting for a bus in town, graduate student Mei Kamino snaps photos of an ancient painting depicting pterodactyl-like tengu and a sea monster labelled "Gojira".

Yun believes the lights flickered as the result of radio waves emitted by a flying creature. Using their "ghost detector," they try tracking it, but a traffic jam forces them to reroute. The same jam delays Mei's arrival to Misakioku Radio Observatory, where she is greeted by Director Tsunetomo Yamamoto. She has come in place of her indisposed professor to help them resolve the mystery of an alarm which has recently started ringing for the first time. Chief of Staff Shunya Sato tells her that it is responding to a certain signal: the song from the crystal radio, playing on a loop. In the hopes of learning more, they call Otaki Factory, which installed cables in the alarm five years ago. As it happens, Yun and Haberu's chase has led them to the observatory. Yun starts to climb over the fence when he receives Mei's call. He is wary at first, believing she already knows about him trespassing, then realizes the timing of the call is a coincidence. Before he can properly answer her, however, two police officers spot him and Haberu. Mei and the observatory employees resolve to try again tomorrow. While taking a taxi into town, she visits Otaki Factory's website and finds Yun's imposing CV. She downloads the free AI assistant, Naratake, that he programmed.

At the station, Yun tries to use his own AI assistant, Yung, to help answer the officers' questions. Their eccentric boss, Goro Otaki, soon secures their release. He believes that UFOs are responsible for the signal they are tracking, and encourages them to complete something called Jet Jaguar to save the world. Yun identifies the song: "Alapu Upala," a folk tune from India. Mei installs the quirky Naratake in her hotel room and renames it Pelops II. Upon installation, it transforms into a cartoon dog and begins cleaning up her hard drive. The next day, Shinya visits Otaki Factory and beholds Jet Jaguar, a massive humanoid robot that Otaki has spent his fortune on. Haberu comes with him to the observatory and reports that the cable they installed leads to the basement. As he leaves, he greets Mei, who attended high school with him, and offers to drive her into town. She talks briefly about her research into theoretical life forms.

Otaki Factory showcases Jet Jaguar at the festival, but the local kids are unimpressed. As Otaki climbs into the cockpit, they spot a red Pteranodon-like creature flying in the distance. It clumsily flies into a radio antennae, then topples to the ground when it tries to stand on a sign. Yun finds himself face-to-face with it when he helps a child to his feet. At Misakioku, Yamamoto leads Shunya to the basement, a forgotten military black site, and insists on hazmat suits for them both. He pushes open a door to reveal the bones of a enormous dinosaur-like monster.
