They were incredible, these invaders who had wiped out three great cities...Los Angeles, on the North American continent, Moscow in Europe, and Johannesburg at the southern tip of Africa! Their scientists, huge and grotesque as they were, demonstrated superior technological development, and their electronics experts wiped out all radio and television communications on Earth! Their weapons were superior to our weapons...but man was willing to go on fighting and dying...until Gorgo, the all-powerful survivor of an extinct giant species, vainly pitted his awesome strength and ferocity against these strangers! Never before had the reptilean giant been so easily subdued...in fact, the manner in which the huge monster was tamed was what finally frightened planet Earth into quivering submission!

Gorgo (Charlton Comics)
"The Day the Earth Gave Up"
In the 1980s, during what was towards the end of the Cold War, the Space Scourgers decided to turn their attention to Earth, arrogantly convinced that their conquest would be easy given humankind's acclaimed inferiority. With their small but formidable fleet of six spaceships en route for Earth, commander Gdon reported that they would conduct a weapons test on the way. The Space Scourge leader ordered the use of their three basic weapons system, first the heat focus tubes. The destroyer technician of one of the ships deployed the vessel's heat tube against a space rock, which melted and then ignited in spite of the lack of oxygen or lithium. Though the display of power proved successful, the spaceships, at tens times the speed of light, weren't finished with their weapons testing and thus took their work elsewhere. Firing a vibra-beam with a vibra-ray at yet another space rock, the ship rearranged the entire molecular structure of the test target. Before the Space Scourgers could move on to test their explosives, the leader was informed that they couldn't go through with it because their target planet was disintegrating, leaving them disappointed. Though very irritated by the apparent tendency of the occurred inconvenience, the leader nonetheless took good news from the evident functionality of the fleet's weapons systems, arrogantly declaring that any one of them was enough for wrecking the world that they intended to reach and plunder.
Eventually, an American radar-operator pinpointed the oncoming fleet 470,000 miles from Earth, both him and his superior horrified by the size and faster-than-light velocity of their discovery. Relaying their plans to the president, the Master Military Planners urged their elected official the use of anti-missile-missiles loaded with cobalt warheads. In America, the Soviet Union, and France, the nations' political leaders all declined the proposal.
Arriving at Earth, the Space Scourgers were met with the approach of a space shuttle commissioned to reconnoiter them. The leader promptly ordered for Habod to retrieve the vessel, though they didn't hesitate to order three of the ships to make their move before the unnamed major piloting the shuttle could be questioned. Under the leader's orders, Los Angeles, Moscow, and Johannesburg were all obliterated in three massive explosions.
After the bombing of Johannesburg, the ship responsible flew over the jungle where Gorgo happened to be presently roaming.
Technology
Spaceships
The Space Scourgers possess a fleet of six spaceships, referred to simply as "Scourgers", each over 5,000 feet in length as estimated by Human scientists and armed with weapons capable of threatening entire planets.
Speed
A radar operator recorded the Space Scourgers' spaceships going at a velocity of 1,862,820 miles per second, or ten times the speed of light.

Explosives
The Space Scourgers' ships are armed with immensely powerful explosives which were deployed on Los Angeles, Moscow, and Johannesburg. The resulting explosions obliterated the cities in three massive mushroom clouds.
Nerve vapor
The Space Scourgers' ships can deploy a gaseous sedative powerful enough to leave Gorgo unconscious.
Durability

Electronics
The Space Scourgers' technology were capable of wiping out all radio and television communications on Earth.
Fetching-Cables
The Space Scourgers are capable of deploying purple tentacle like appendages from their chests, purposed for grappling and subduing targets.
