"Island of Doom"
The Calico floated off the coast of Australia to monitor a new satellite meant to photograph the entire South Pacific. Unbeknownst to them, the terrorist organization COBRA, based on a nearby island, detected the satellite as well, and General Xadar ordered it to be shot down before it could reveal their location. However, this drew the Calico crew's attention, and they set off to search for the origin of the shot.
In a meeting with the rest of COBRA's leadership, Xadar announced that COBRA nearly had functional nuclear weapons, which they would use to ransom major cities around the world. The Calico soon detected the radiation from the weapons and Dr. Darian deduced their existence. Captain Majors ordered Brock to alert the Australian authorities, but the radiation blocked the Calico's transmission, forcing her crew to venture on alone. COBRA soon detected the Calico, and Colonel Varna ordered an electromagnetic minefield to be deployed to destroy the ship. Godzooky and Pete spotted the mines and alerted Majors, who stopped the ship. However, they were soon blocked in by them, forcing Majors to call Godzilla to save them. A mine drifted dangerously close to the Calico, but Godzilla scooped it up and poked it, unfazed by the subsequent explosion. He collected the rest in his hand before punching them to detonate them all at once, giving the Calico a safe path forward.
Majors and Brock departed the Calico on a hovercraft to investigate the island up close, quickly finding enormous anti-ship guns and an assortment of missile launchers before discovering COBRA's nuclear power plant. They were spotted by two COBRA soldiers while they approached the shore. After evading a guard, the duo infiltrated the plant, observing the reactor itself before being surrounded by COBRA guards. Majors tried to summon Godzilla again, but the radioactivity blocked the Godzilla Signal. Varna informed Xadar of the spies and their intentions, and the General ordered them sent to a prison tower. Meanwhile, Quinn, Pete, and Godzooky swam to the island after Majors and Brock didn't return. COBRA detected them too, and Verna dispatched a mechanized assault unit to apprehend the trio. Quinn and Pete ran, while Godzooky took flight and dove towards the missile launcher, dodging multiple missiles before he turned and retreated with his friends. A tank cut them off, and the three were taken to the prison tower, where they were interrogated by Xadar. The general insisted they were spies before suddenly departing due to problems with the nuclear power plant's cooling systems. With COBRA distracted by the potential meltdown and world-threatening fallout it would unleash, Godzooky broke free and flew out to sea to call Godzilla.
Godzilla approached the island, and was also detected by COBRA; the astonished Xadar quickly dispatched all of COBRA's conventional arsenal to stop him. Shore guns had no effect on Godzilla, who made landfall and trampled scores of COBRA's weapons. Xadar exclaimed that Godzilla was headed for a minefield, which he promptly walked through without even acknowledging. As Godzilla approached the prison tower, COBRA fired the same missile which they used against the satellite; it only offended Godzilla, who momentarily stopped to roar before continuing. Next, COBRA besieged Godzilla with tanks and artillery, their combined arms forcing him to block their fire. However, their achievement wasn't to last, and Godzilla crushed the tanks before melting the artillery with his laser eyes and fire breath. COBRA'S remaining ground troops fled and were covered by jets, which swarmed Godzilla and fired on him from all sides. Godzilla swatted a jet out of the sky and tore apart another before marching straight to COBRA's headquarters.
Godzilla ignited the airport with his laser eyes and trampled several buildings and parked jets before taking down the turning control tower with a tail whip. Xadar and Varna fled their command post just before Godzilla crushed the entire building underfoot. At the nuclear power plant, the workers lost control of the reserve pumps and fled the impending meltdown. Godzooky lead Godzilla to the prison tower, which he ripped from its foundations. Next, he unscrewed the roof to allow his friends to walk into his hand. Godzooky then told Godzilla about the nuclear meltdown, and he responded by placing the Calico crew on the ground and tearing the reactor from the plant before tossing it into a lagoon to cool it. Roaring victoriously, Godzilla neutralized the radiation with his laser eyes before he and the Calico crew departed. The crew radioed the Australian government, and were informed that a United Nations task force would sweep the island to arrest COBRA's remaining personnel and seize its weapons.
Trivia
- COBRA shares some similarities with the Red Bamboo: both are nuclear-armed international terrorist organizations who are based on a South Pacific island and fight Godzilla.
- COBRA shares its name, as well as general attire and the physical attributes of its top brass, with another cobra-themed terrorist organization from G.I. Joe. Godzilla's COBRA predates G.I. Joe's by three years.
- A COBRA member calls Godzooky a "strange beast," a common translation for kaiju.
- Despite "Island of Doom" taking place towards the end of Godzilla, nobody at COBRA recognizes Godzilla or Godzooky.
