Area 51 is the thirty-first episode of Godzilla: The Series, and is the tenth episode of season 2.

Plot

The episode opens with a two conspiracy theorists breaking into Area 51 in New Mexico. They narrowly escape being trampled by Giant Armadillo. H.E.A.T. is doing an experiment to see which styles of music Godzilla responds to, but Randy Hernandez switched the music to all Metal, and otherwise ruined every member's day in some way or another. He gets out of this hot water when Elsie Chapman asks him to enhance a picture taken inside Area 51, that the public has mistaken for an alien spacecraft, and reveals that it is really a mutation. They go to Area 51 to investigate, but they are turned down at the gate with assurance that the photo was manipulated. They break in, and the Military finds them, but at that moment Giant Armadillo appears again, and they formulate a plan to get it tangled in a giant mesquite plant's roots. They are successful and are allowed inside the facilities of Area 51. Dr. Candace Kirk, the lead scientist explains that after the many nuclear tests in the 1950's, many mutations formed and Area 51 was converted into a place to study them. They reveal that climate changes caused an enclosure wall to break and allowed the Giant Armadillo and a Thorny Devil to escape. They go out to look for it, and it attacks Randy and Dr. Kirk, and the rest of H.E.A.T.'s rescue attempt fails. Godzilla then burrows under Area 51's perimeter wall to defend them. He gets wounded during the fight, and Randy is tasked with firing a specially designed tranquilizer dart into Thorny Devil's underbelly. He is unsuccessful, but by Godzilla recovers and is able to continue the fight. He is victorious, and kills the Thorny Devil with his Atomic Ray.
