Marvel Worldwide Inc., commonly referred to as Marvel Comics, is an American company that publishes comic books and related media. One of the two largest and oldest still-operating American comic book publishers alongside DC Comics, Marvel's vast library of characters includes the likes of Spider-Man, Hulk, the X-Men, the Avengers, and many more. Most of its characters inhabit a fictional shared universe known as the Marvel Universe, and several have been adapted to other media such as television and film, including the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe film franchise. Since 2009, Marvel has been owned by The Walt Disney Company after it acquired its parent company, Marvel Entertainment.

From 1977 to 1979, Marvel Comics published Godzilla, a comic series that integrated the character into the Earth-616 Marvel Universe. After losing the rights to Godzilla, Marvel was forced to abandon the character, but continued to use its original characters that debuted alongside him. A mutated version of the monster appeared unnamed in several comics in 1985 and 1986. Godzilla, somehow no longer mutated, canonically reappeared in Mighty Avengers #1 in 2007. Most recently, Godzilla was referenced by Marvel via multiple pictures in Monsters Unleashed #6 in 2017. Marvel currently holds the comic rights to the Ultra Series, and has published multiple comics using the license.
