Just a year after their epic showdown on Mount Fuji, King Kong and Godzilla do battle once again.

Following the huge financial success of King Kong vs. Godzilla in 1962, Toho immediately began production of the next Godzilla film. Hoping to repeat the success of the previous film, Toho initially decided to produce a direct sequel pitting King Kong against Godzilla once again. Shinichi Sekizawa wrote a screenplay for the film, which had the simple working title of Continuation: King Kong vs. Godzilla, and submitted it in 1963.
