Baraguirus
|
Baraguirus (バラギラス is an unused kaiju considered for inclusion in the unrealized story proposal Baragirasu)Godzilla vs. Baraguirus. A kaiju possessing traits of both Baragon and Anguirus, the monster was to become possessed by Ghost Godzilla and battle the modern Godzilla.
Name
Baraguirus' name is, simply enough, a combination of "Baragon" and "Anguirus."
Design
No concept art of Baraguirus is known to exist, however Shinji Nishikawa described the creature as resembling a cross between Baragon and Anguirus. After being possessed by Ghost Godzilla, its appearance changes due to the spectral kaiju's influence.[1]
Overview
Baraguirus was a new kaiju proposed by monster designer Shinji Nishikawa to round out the monster cast of the Godzilla vs. Ghost Godzilla idea. Resembling a cross between Baragon and Anguirus, hence its name, the creature was not literally intended to be a fusion between the two kaiju. In the story for Godzilla vs. Baraguirus, Ghost Godzilla appears and draws the attention of both Godzilla and Baraguirus. The ghostly kaiju soon possesses Baraguirus' body, and the creature does battle with Godzilla.[2]
Baraguirus was dropped along with Ghost Godzilla during the development process of the seventh Heisei Godzilla film. Director Takao Okawara stated that the concept was abandoned because "it was felt that it would not be a good idea to have [Godzilla] take on another incarnation of himself so soon" after facing Mechagodzilla and SpaceGodzilla.[3]
Abilities
Burrowing
Like both of its namesakes, Baraguirus can burrow underground.[4]
