Star Godzilla is an unproduced and unlicensed 1980 Godzilla film.

History

Star Godzilla was to be produced by Hong Kong's First Distributors (H.K.) Ltd., and was announced with a poster ad in the pages of the May 7, 1980 issue of Variety. Although nothing is known about the proposed plot, the ad art depicts Godzilla, King Kong, and Anguirus amidst a burning city, surrounded by UFOs and various military vehicles. It's believed that threat of legal action from Toho put an end to the project.[1] The ad cites Futien Hsu as director, Joy Hsu as producer, Chris Lee as screenwriter, and a cast consisting of Joey Fang, Chang Ching, and Charles Woo.

Trivia

  • King Kong appears in the ad courtesy of art lifted from the advertising campaign for Dino De Laurentiis' King Kong.
  • Star Godzilla was "reviewed" by Stomp Tokyo Video Reviews' Scott Hamilton and Chris Holland on April 1, 1998 as an April Fool's Day prank.[2] Screenshots from One Crazy Summer and a doctored screenshot from Infra-Man were used to represent the film.
