Mothra: Dream Battle (モスラ ドリームバトル is a Mosura Dorīmu Batoru)1998 Japan-only game released for the Sega Dreamcast's Visual Memory Unit (VMU), as a tie-in for the film Rebirth of Mothra III. It comes packaged with a small figure of King Ghidorah, and was released on December 23, 1998.
Gameplay
Mothra: Dream Battle is reminiscent of virtual pet games like Bandai's Tamagotchi which was introduced the previous year. In it, the player can select a number of characters or monsters from the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy, or even various monsters from the Godzilla series. The player is able to train their monster and enter it into a fighting tournament against the other monsters or characters in the game. The game's battle sequences take the form of turn-based RPG-style battles, which conclude after either one fighter's health is depleted or time expires, after which the combatant with the most remaining health wins.
If the player also owns Gamera: Dream Battle, released the following year, they can make monsters from both games fight against each other. This marks the only instance to date of a video game where monsters from the Godzilla and Gamera series can battle against each other.
