Plot

A extraterrestrial monster with very similar features to King Ghidorah, named Keizer Ghidorah, comes down to Earth. Not long after, it encounters and does battle with the King of the Monsters: Godzilla.

History

After Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II wrapped production, it was time for Toho to find out the plot of what the sixth Heisei Era entry would be. The first known proposal was to have Godzilla go up against a variation of King Ghidorah, whose name would be Keizer Ghidorah, who as the name implied, was supposed to be a "higher rank" than King Ghidorah.[1] Keizer Ghidorah would have been alien in origin, similar to the Showa version of King Ghidorah. This seems to also be somewhat of a revisit of another scrapped Heisei era film titled The Return of King Ghidorah, which had a similar plot. Alas, with 1994 also seeing the release of Orochi, the Eight-Headed Dragon, with the titular Orochi being the main antagonist, Toho scrapped Godzilla vs. Keizer Ghidorah out of fears that having two hydras acting as villains in two movies releasing the same year would draw too many similarities.

Trivia

  • Parse details of this scrapped proposal can be found in the pages of Godzilla Dictionary: New Edition (ISBN 4773087250). The name of "Keizer Ghidorah" (皇帝ギドラ - Kotei Gidora) is mentioned in the text using Kanji, which can be translated in various ways, such as emperor, czar, kaiser, etc.
  • Keizer Ghidorah is also the name of the second form of Monster X, Keizer Ghidorah. It's possible that the makers of Godzilla Final Wars were inspired by the Heisei Keizer Ghidorah pitch outright, but without a script for the unmade 90s project, it's unknown if this is just coincidence, or if both Keizer Ghidorah's share similarities outside of a name.
