Barubaroi (バルバロイ) is a kaiju from the unmade 1995 Godzilla film, Godzilla vs. Barubaroi.

Name

Toho worried that the name "Barubaroi" sounded too similar to "Berber," and that it could be considered insensitive.[1] As such, it was eventually changed to "Destoroyah" due to the monster's connection to the Oxygen Destroyer.

Design

Barubaroi had a very detailed design for a concept monster. Barubaroi had a main head which was shaped like a whale's, and three additional heads on its body's left and right sides. Each head was shaped differently, one of them even having a squid's design. Barubaroi's skin resembles that of Hedorah's and Biollante's, with many eyes barely visible in it. The monster also had a row of plates running down its back, which resemble Godzilla's dorsal fins. It seemed to have a tail the length of Barubaroi's height, which already was noticeably several meters larger than Godzilla's, with a fish tail fin at the end of it. The monster had two legs which it could stand on bipedally, yet Barubaroi's chest had six insect-like limbs which it apparently could use for walking as well.

History

Godzilla vs. Barubaroi

Barubaroi was a prehistoric sea creature mutated by the Oxygen Destroyer, and had the ability to copy the appearance and traits of other organisms and kaiju, as evidenced by some pieces of concept art where it possesses the appendages of various sea animals and is seen imitating the Anguirus Hound. Over the course of the film, it would continually grow and change form until it dwarfed even Godzilla. It was gradually reworked into Destoroyah, who retained some of the same traits.

Abilities

Shape Shifting

When it injests flesh of it’s opponent it takes on it's shape accordimg to a version of the film's draft

Weaknesses

In one draft of the film after injesting some of Godzilla's flesh the raidoactivity and muation of Godzilla's cells causes it to horribly mutate and die from it.
