Godzilla vs. Emperor Ghidorah (ゴジラVS皇帝ギドラ is an Gojira vs. Kōtei Gidora)unmade 1994 proposal for the sixth Heisei era Godzilla film.
Plot
Emperor Ghidorah, a more powerful and "higher-ranking" member of King Ghidorah's species, descends to Earth and starts wreaking havoc. Not long after, it encounters and battles Godzilla.
History
Godzilla vs. Emperor Ghidorah was the first known proposal for the sixth Heisei Godzilla film, reviving the previously-scrapped The Return of King Ghidorah's concept of a traditional malevolent, extraterrestrial King Ghidorah in like with the kaiju's Showa incarnation. The monster was named "Emperor Ghidorah" to distinguish it from and rank it above the previous Heisei Ghidorah. Toho had already planned to release Orochi, the Eight-Headed Dragon that same year, and fears arose that having two antagonistic multi-headed dragon kaiju in a single year would be too much, leading to Toho scrapping Godzilla vs. Emperor Ghidorah and creating new concepts for an alien opponent, eventually creating Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla.
Trivia
- While named "Emperor Ghidorah" in most sources, titular Ghidorah's title is spelt in Kanji, leading to multiple translations such as "Keizer Ghidorah," which some sources call the kaiju.[1]
- Godzilla Final Wars featured its own "Keizer Ghidorah," which may have been inspired by Emperor Ghidorah.
