The Pteranodon Robot (翼竜ロボット,   Yokuryū Robotto, lit. "Pterosaur Robot") is a robotic Pteranodon-like vehicle built by Kazuma Aoki that appears in the 1993 film Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II.

History

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II

The Pteranodon Robot was created by Kazuma Aoki, who modeled it after the Pteranodons he adored so much. Aoki brought the completed robot to the enclosure where BabyGodzilla was being held by the United Nations Godzilla Countermeasure Center and cared for by Azusa Gojo. Aoki let Azusa ride on the robot with him, but as they passed over BabyGodzilla's enclosure, the robot sputtered and suddenly fell to the ground. While both Aoki and Azusa were unhurt, the robot was left damaged. Aoki later repaired the Pteranodon Robot and used it to exit the Garuda during the battle between Godzilla and Super Mechagodzilla.

Trivia

  • The Pteranodon Robot can be viewed as a mechanical counterpart to Rodan, although it is much smaller, furthering Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II's theme of "life against artificial life." According to critic David Kalat, "That the flying machine crashes ignominiously on its maiden flight serves as an apt precursor to the climactic failures of G-Force's technology on the battlefield."[1]
