Shinseimaru (新生丸) (Alternatively spelled Shinsei Maru) is a fictional wooden-hull minesweeper that appeared in the 2023 film Godzilla Minus One.

History

Godzilla Minus One

In March 1946, Koichi Shikishima found a well-paying job in minesweeping.

Later, when he arrives at the dock where the minesweeper is, Shikishima is startled that the minesweeper, the Shinseimaru, is a small wooden boat. Kenji Noda explains that the hull's construction is to ward off magnetic mines, Shikishima later gets introduced to Captain Seiji Akitsu and Shiro Mizushima.

It's later explained that there is a line between the Shinseimaru and its running mate, the Kaishinmaru, to cut mine lines, after which the on-board machine guns were used to detonate them.

In May 1947, the Shinseimaru and the Kaishinmaru were dispatched to delay Godzilla's advance to Japan and wait for the Takao to arrive. Whilst that Godzilla drags the Kaishinmaru and, after resurfacing, begins to pursuit the Shinseimaru. As Godzilla chases the boat the crew laid down a mine in an attempt to damage or at least deter the creature, the mine detonates next to one of his dorsal plates, though he continues his pursuit. A second mine was laid and was lodged inside Godzilla's jaw, though the detonator fails. Shikishima then detonates it with the machine gun, which manages to destroy Godzilla's left eye and cheek, but also injures him and Mizushima.

After Godzilla regenerates, Takao arrives much to the relief of the crew of the boat and attacks at the kaiju, ending his pursuit of the Shinseimaru, and attacks the ship, completely obliterating it.
