USO MAKOTO Yōkai Hyaku Monogatari (虚実妖怪百物語,   USO MAKOTO Yōkai Hyaku Monogatari) is a series of novelizations written by Natsuhiko Kyōgoku. It was published serially on the magazine Kwai since 2011, and the completed edition was published in December 2018, making it one of the largest works by Kyōgoku.

For the completed edition published in 2018, Masami Yuki drew a short manga.[1]

About

Its storyline and main antagonists are largely based on The Great Yokai War series and Teitō Monogatari series.

Most notably, the series features a mass crossover between multiple different franchises where many renowned characters were involved, and a number of real persons appeared as characters.

Story

A subspinous rumor that, Yasunori Katō was witnessed in Middle East, spread.

Meanwhile in Japan, Shigeru Mizuki warned that spiritual crisis would happen soon, and a sudden surge in crimes occurred all over Japan, and the nation's public securities are endangered, gaining international attentions.

Additionally, sightings of Yōkai began to occur elsewhere without any logical explanations that whether or not these supernatural beings are hallucinations or not.

Following these events, cultural, political, religious affairs were thrown into utter confusion while Yasunori Katō was working secretly to revive and manifest supernatural beings starting from Daimon.

Crossovers

Below-mentioned characters are the ones that appeared as actual characters in the story, and excluding those mentioned only.

While some of fictional characters appeared as narratives, most of these characters were "summoned" (physically manifested) by "Japan Yōkai Promotion Committee" (main protagonists) for the final battle at Mount Fuji. These entities have their own emotions and occasionally performed their abilities. As these beings don't possess physical bodies, their attacks don't cause physical damages, however they are useful for diversion and disturbance, causing squanders of ammunition for military forces.[2]

Real-life people

More than hundred of real people appeared.[3]
