One day, a boy living in a rural town in Japan encounters a rabbit with a mysterious brush. The rabbit, which speaks human language, explains how the brush it has can make whatever one thinks into reality, and is on a journey to keep the Yamata no Orochi from resurrecting into the world and keep the brush out of the hands of nefarious individuals.[2]

Development
Director Keizo Murase originally conceived of the idea for Brush of the God while making The Mighty Peking Man, following a suggestion that he write a film for Hong Kong producer Chua Lam.[2] The Motion Gallery crowdfunding campaign for Brush of the God raised ¥2,600,192, well over its ¥2 million goal, concluding on September 25, 2020.[1] A subsequent Kickstarter campaign was unsuccessful, raising less than half of its $24,272 goal.[2] The production posted test footage of the Yamata no Orochi puppet online on October 29.[3]
