The P-1 was sent to explore the newly-discovered Planet X, located just beyond Jupiter. When the ship arrived, its two pilots, Glenn and Fuji, were brought to the underground lair of the Xiliens, an advanced alien race who lived on the planet. After a talk with the Controller of Planet X, they returned to the ship in order to return to Earth and discuss bringing Godzilla and Rodan to Planet X in order to fend off King Ghidorah. Once the two astronauts returned to Planet X with Dr. Sakurai to ensure the operation's success, they were sent back to Earth in a superior replica of the P-1 constructed by the Xiliens.
