He took a few jobs to help support his family, like a ranch hand, a sheriff deputy, a photo salesmen, and even a singer at a night club. He also served in the U.S. navy, but that ended when he was shot in the stomach and was sent home. He eventually starred in his film debut ''San Quentin''. After that he went on to star in 90 films (including the American releases of ''Godzilla'' and ''The Return of Godzilla'') before being put in his most famous role as Perry Mason from the show of the same name. In 1993, he passed away after his long battle with cancer.
