Susumu Utsumi (内海進 was a Utsumi Susumu)Japanese actor and suit actor.
A relative of actress and tarento Midori Utsumi, Utsumi was born in a liquor store. Utsumi liked to train his physique, and practiced with professional wrestlers at the Riki Sports Palace. Also interested in auto racing, Utsumi drove for Toho's race team and by chance had the opportunity to act in Toho productions such as Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo. In 1968, Utsumi was cast as King Ghidorah's suit actor, and the following year played one of the Bat Men in Latitude Zero. Utsumi's son Atsushi later recalled being scared as a child seeing his father don the King Ghidorah costume. Utsumi retired from acting in his 30s and entered the landscaping business. Utsumi encouraged his son to join the Mifune Art Academy and become an actor, but Atsushi declined out of fear of acting in public. However, Atsushi later became an actor for a theater company and appeared in movies and television series such as Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II and Ultraman Gaia. Susumu Utsumi eventually contracted diabetes and was repeatedly hospitalized and discharged, ultimately dying of diabetes. While Utsumi's date of death is unknown, his son has said he was approximately 52 or 53 at the time of his death.
